Default Axle help

I got a 2006 Lexus gs300 awd and the guy at the shop around the corner put my car on the lift and we saw that on both sides my axles are leaking. He said I need new axles. But I'm thinking maybe just new seals and boots. What determines an axles need to be replace. He didn't drive the car either. Also is there a place where I can get them because I've search everywhere and can't find them. The dealer wants $1,134.63 for one side and $800 for the other.

If it doesn't make noise when you accelerate around a tight turn in either direction and there's still some grease in the CV joints then it just needs boots.

Most shops have stopped doing boots because the shaft is less labor and most shafts are less than $50 to the shop. But with $800 shafts, the boots are very justified... Even if the joints make a little noise, for that price, try the boots first. A clean joint with new grease will often quiet a clicking joint and add years of life.
If it clicks loudly or the joint is sloppy loose then you're stuck needing a shaft.
Good luck...

Thanks, nice to meet you.I notice it makes a little noise when I turn left it's not a loud noise. I did notice the other day a wobble sound on that side at 50mph. There isn't a grinding sound so I'm guessing there's some grease.

also most really good quality parts suppliers can actually send in your stock shaft for a rebuild. but if it were me id get one from a junkyard off low mileage car, that way its easy in and out with no mess or extra labor.

Yea for that price I would check some rebuildable car dealers and try and get a spare set

When I got my CPO '07 GS350, it arrived with a rear axle that had a split cv boot that was spitting grease everywhere.. Somehow the delivery company ran a strap over the boot and it rubbed a hole in it. The dealer charged me $1492 for just the driver side rear axle. Lexus states there is no replacement boot kit, which seems crazy to me.
