I have a 03 IS300 with a very annoying popping sound coming from the front. My first thought is that it's a cv joint. Easy enough until I went to buy a front axel and realized that cv joints are not on rear wheel vehicles. I have been told it's probably the ball joints. My mech said drive it until it gets worse so he can find the problem.

Fix those ball joints immediately unless you want the front end to basically collapse.

Thank you BoughtanIS I am taking it tomorrow to get the ball joints replaced. I hope that's the problem.

It's all fixed!!! 😃 it was the bearings on the lower and upper control arm. The parts are about $350 plus labor but the popping noise is gone and so is the front end shaking. Drives like brand new. It does need a new alignment but that is nothing. If you have this problem and it pops when you push down on the front end check your bushings on the control arm. Took my dad about 2 hours to do both the upper and lower control arm and back brakes.
