Default Rock paint chip?

Hi,

I recently noticed a paint chip on the hood (see attachment). I am guessing that this was because of a rock while I was driving on the freeway. Is this considered wear and tear that wouldn't be covered under regular warranty? (Please ignore the long scratch ) This is on an 08 GS 350 that is still covered by the factory warranty. What can I do to fix it or at least prevent any rusting?

Thanks.

rock chips will not be covered under warranty. you can get touch up paint from the dealer if you like. it will be slightly noticeable but it will look much better than what it does now.

Definitely not covered under warranty. Agree with IXI187IXI, though. Just get some TUP.

Default Rock Chip

If you have a zero or low deductible on the comprehensive part of your insurance you may get an estimate and they might do the repair. Claims against your comp ins does not affect your premium. Since this is just more than a small nick it might be covered. I know years ago when I had AAA ins they would cover it.

see my post #19 in this link below regarding dr. colorchip:

if your deductible is low and affordable, i would go with a repaint. if you decide to go this route, make sure you find a reputable collision repair/paint shop that does good color matching. nothing is worse than having 2 different shades of mismatch paint

you won't rust, if u want pay to get it fixed and possibly get a clear bra for the hwole front end.... Lexus cars are known to have a lot of chips on the front (at least the silver and whites anyway)

that won't cost more than $250 to fix. do NOT turn that into your insurance. or you can go the route of touch up. regardless, if you do a lot of freeway (high speed) driving, this is inevitable.
