This is actually been really helpful hearing the feedback from everyone regarding these tires. I'm actually on the fence about purchasing these DWS for my GS-h this week, but was looking at what the best comparable all-season tire would be, and am having a hard time finding one. Ride comfort is important to me, but lifespan of the tire as well as water/snow traction is a bit of a higher priority since I live in Canada.
Does anyone have any recommendations for another all-season tire that would be direct competition for the Conti's?
Don't get me wrong, I still buy these Conti knowing that may sometimes wander a bit. I haven't had the chance to check my tire pressure yet, but I'm pretty sure they're low at 32 (from last Lexus service document); pumping them up to 35 should help make the tires more rigid and less likely to follow grooves.
I haven't looked into all-season because those are wasted here in NorCal. I do know that the DW have better dry and wet traction than the DWS, so it's worth considering if you ever plan to swap between 2 sets of tires. Even the guys at the tire shop admitted that the cost-benefit ratio for the Conti way surpass the Michelins for comparable models. Michelins are probably still the best, but you definitely pay a premium for them, and I don't think their PS2 are nearly as quiet as the Conti.
I'm running 36 psi as well. It does help with the tramline effect. According to the manual in the car the door shows 33 psi for normal operation, and 42 psi if travling in excess of 100 mph for extended periods. I don't think going to 36 is out of the realm of possibility, but I am keeping an eye on the wear pattern as time goes on.
I have absolutely no issues with my Conti Extreme Contact DWS. Car rides quiet and grips decent. I would look confirm alignment settings I'm running 235/35R19 and 275/30R19
Well, I did figure out what the problem was with my application, and it wasn't the tires. The local tire store that installed these didn't ballance the wheels properly, and the front camber was out from where I normally run it. I guess that isn't suprising since I had to buy these after hitting a 2" piece of angle iron that some one dropped on the interstate. No wheel damage, but still agrivating.
Now that the tires are ballanced properly, running 36 psi and aligned the car drives as well as the Yoko Advans that were on it before. The sidewalls aren't as stiff, but the steering is still direct and the tramlining is gone. These were bought with the intention of this car being a DD for comfortable highway cruising and some playing arround in the mountians. They appear to be very good for that purpose!
I have had DWS on the gs430 for about a year and a half. During the first 6-7 months the tires were quieter then the runflats it replaced. However a year later I do notice a bit more road noise then when I initially got them. This however is a common complaint about Conti's in general. I also notice quite a bit more tracking when it comes to slight grooves on the road as they get older. I do have around 65-70% tread wear left on the tire.
When I do replace them out I will probably end up trying the new General Gmax UHP all weather tires that just came out. Same mother company but hopefully better longevity on the ride quality.
I had the EXACT SAME EXPERIENCE with the DWS that I bought. I even went back to the pilots A/S tire. But YOU KNOW WHATS funny????? On lane changes on the highway the pilots feel the same. The car requires constant correction ESP on the highway. I think something is going on with the suspension. Same issue with two different tires??? What are the odds................
