Default Did I get scammed?

Hi Guys,

Long time supporter of this forum and the RX forum. Recently, my right headlight went out. Read on various forums about Garaxx and other brands, and I decided to stick with stock light bulbs. I ended up purchasing my light bulbs from ijdmtoy.com I changed the light bulb based on step by step instructions seen on other forums and used gloves and was very meticulous. Both headlights turn on fine. Found out that after driving my car maybe 10-15 mins, the right light I replaced goes off. I have to do the switch off-switch on to get the light back on, but the headlight eventually goes off again. Got home switched the light bulbs as instructed, and it went off on the left side. Called the vendor and they replaced the bulbs. I ended up replacing both headlight bulbs to match, and now the left head light goes off and sometimes the right, and at one point both went out!!!!(good thing my fogs/city lights still work) What the heck does this mean? Are my bulbs fake? I purchased what I thought were the OEM bulbs - D4S Philips Xenco:

"Brand NEW Genuine PHILIPS XenEco 42402 2A998 D4S Xenon Headlight HID bulbs (pair), OEM Lexus Toyota"

Bulbs look legit/authentic when I compared to the originals, but with both headlights intermittently going out does this mean both my ballasts are bad or is this a bad vendor or what?? Is this common especially when my car has about 58k miles? Both ballast going out at the same time? Appreciate any feedback - Anyone know anything about this vendor?

Thanks!!

Well it doesn't seem like you got scammed, I had a problem where my right light would go out after driving for 5 mins. The only way to get it to work was to turn off and turn back on. I replaced those bulbs with garax, and the problem wen't away. Then I didn't like 6k as it doesn't light up the road I wen't ahead and got some original ones from ebay. I have not had the same problem since. It can be the ballast, but in you're case I would try ebay bulbs out. You can also swap the sides and see if it still turns of to get a better idea.

So you are suggesting that I purchase original lightbulbs from ebay to see if those work and stay on? In your case, it sounds like you ended up with sticking with the stock Philips as opposed to the Garax.

Sound like u just got some cheap bulbs...I was having the same problem u had with like 4 different brands of d4s bulbs I brought from eBay!!! So I put up a thread about it and thanks to my club lexus brothers, they convinced me to buy some garax bulbs and I never had the problem again!!! I love my garax bulbs, they are one of the best ones for our cars!! They about 80-90 dollars a pair but very well worth it

Where did most of you guys end up getting your garax bulbs? I feel as if I've been scammed based on the performance of the Philips bulbs I have received although they look 100% genuine. Again, if any of you have insights into these bulbs or the vendor - it'd be great.

Thanks!

Just had this same problem. Bought some Philips ultinon bulbs and the right side kept going out. The seller swapped them out with another pair and the same thing kept happening. When i put the oem bulbs back in they worked fine. Long story short i bought a pair of garax 6k bulbs and they work perfect. I installed a pair of vleds 5k hid fog lights to make up for the lose in light input from the garax. Now i love my setup, looks great at night.

Sound like cheap HID bulbs.....and it doesn't sound like they are the real deal.

The scary part is that they are imprinted like the real ones..Germany | XenEco | 35W | 42402, but I suppose it's because they are fake..This is unfortunate =(

When I first started reading, i thought it might be a ballast, but then you said the left side went out shortly after so then it would/should be the bulbs again that are faulty..Should just order from Nigel-jdm, and send back the ones you received, then call it a day!

That's what I might just have to do! Lemme try and reach out to the other vendor to see if they can do anything. =(

Totally dangerous: I was driving around yesterday night and BOTH headlights went out..repeatedly. I had to turn off/on my headlights at least 10+ times during my ride home. This is a lawsuit waiting to happen! Selling fake headlights should be a CRIME. These online vendors who claim to sell OEM products, but send these replicas need to be brought to justice!
