Brake caliper/pads concern

Brake caliper/pads concern
i noticed something odd on my rear driver's side brakes. the pad on the outside seems to have worn more than the inside. i was installing shims and don't remember seeing the same problem on any of the other calipers. i braked firmly from 45mph right before i got home and noticed the brakes in question emitted more heat than the other 3. anyone know if this is a serious problem?

All i can think of, is maybe a seized brake caliper pins. What i would of done is lube the rear brakes pins on both passenger n drivers and see i that helps the problem out. Gs's are known to have seized caliper pins, both of my calipers seized one was proffesioanlly lubed and the other one was replaced by lexus.

damnit that's what i was afraid of...guess it's time to bust out the jack stands for the 3rd time in less than 2 months i thought they would have relubed the pins when they did the brake dust boot recall for me back in '09. could the lube have hardened already?

check the pivot pin on the rear brake caliper.
I got Lexus to replace my rear calipers two months ago because of it. The recall in 2009 was to prevent this from happening. Sad to say for Lexus but they have had more rear brake pin seizes because of the recall procedure than they want to admit. It is not the removable slide bolt, but the lower pin that freezes. If your pin is frozen, then the calipers can't squeeze evenly, this results in uneven pad wear that get worse as time goes on. One pad is worn more than the other, and one end of the pad is worn more than the other end.
If frozen, call Lexus customer service and tell them you know that this is an issue and you want new calipers.

ok i just got off the phone with the nearest dealership and lexus corporate. corporate tells me i have to set up an inspection with my dealership and let them document it. the dealership wants $130+ just to look at it. CLEARLY something is wrong with the caliper but the dealership says that corporate may or may not pick up the tab if i have the dealership replace it. what do i do? maybe i should just go to an independent shop and install a whole new caliper?

In you're case i would contact our good friends at sewellparts.com and see how much would a rear caliper would cost with clublexus discount. Personally without warranty i wouldn't even waiste my time trying to have them cover anything. Its hard enough for them to cover things while you are under warranty.
