a new caliper is $212.41 shipped with the CL discount. i guess i'm just gonna have to bite the bullet and purchase it myself. for some reason it's hard to find a shop around my area that'll install parts that i bring them

 

You should just change it you're self. You can also try to get a rebuild caliper from flea bay or auto parts store but who knows how long they will last.

 

i'd be more than happy to change the caliper myself but since i have to disconnect the brake fluid line i'd have to bleed the entire system right? that's too complicated for me and i don't know how to do it.

 

Um I think it should be fairly simple, disconnect the brake line, hold the hole so the brake fluid stops coming out connect to new caliper. Then when you mount it on, have someone in the car pump the brake few times, hold the brake all the way down, loosen up the screw to get all the air out. Repeat few times add brake fluid and it should be good. I have changed out all my brake fluid from my car but I used http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0h5bMoW-aw.

update:
went to a shop to have my brake taken a look at. they said the caliper pin was stuck so they took out the bolt on the bottom (i believe it's part 47815 in this diagram) http://lexus.sewellparts.com/images/...000/474423.jpg. it was really stuck in the caliper so the guy took a blowtorch and heated the area of the caliper up and had to use a hammer to get it out. i looked inside the caliper and it was really rusted. he took a wire brush and cleaned it out then lubed it and the bolt and put it back together. hopefully this takes care of it.

oh and just for reference if it hasn't been posted before, the 17x7.5 10-spoke wheel has an offset of +45 (i'm assuming that since that's what i saw stamped on one of the insides of the spokes)

 

gridlock, thats the pin that freezes. Every six months or so, check it.
Remove the caliper bolt, see if you can pivot the caliper up so the pads clear the rotor. If so, slide the caliper off the pin and relube it. I plan to do this everytime I swap my 2 sets of tires. Takes only a couple of minutes but will save time later. Like I said, I pressed Lexus into replacing both calipers.
They know this is a problem but don't want to announce a re-recall.

I have lubed them up already 5 times, well my mechanic did. 4 times it hasn't held up. Last time we did a very crazy lube job on it, with putting the boot on very carefully and its been over a year, i just replaced rear brakes my self it works like a charm. So good to hear you got around doing it, do you feel a softer pedal? Better stopping? because I defiantly noticed when lexus changed out the rear right caliper that was frozen still.

 

to be honest, i don't feel any difference. i'll keep checking the brake on a daily basis to see if it still emits more heat. did you have problems with both calipers that you needed to change both of them out?

 

Yes both got stuck. First it was the left one which is on its 5th lube, and then it became the right one. I made an appointment to lexus stating that my left caliper pin is stuck. I come back to get my car and they replaced the right rear caliper, saying the left one was fine but the right one was bad. As of right now i have a new one the right and a lubed up one in the left. Next time the left one gets stuck im going to lexus to replace it.
