Greetings,
Perhaps someone can tell me if I'm missing something, I didn't see anything in the owners manual for this. My trunk light is now not coming on in my 2008 GS350, is there some switch/toggle that I'm missing that controls this, or probably just burnt out? Seems kind of strange to have a dead trunk light after just two years. Would this be covered under warranty? (24K miles on car).
And while I have your attention, anyone else have their compass go out in the rear view mirror? The actual directional indication is working, it is just one of the segments of the "W" which is now missing, just looks like || instead of W.
Many thanks.........If this is the only thing to go wrong in 2.5 years, I guess I should be grateful.....

Did you find the switch that is on the light itself? It's a black switch, and if memory serves it is on the light assembly towards the front of the car.
I'm not sure about the compass indicator burning out. That I could see being a warranty replacement since the milage is low and your car is fairly young. My 06 GS430 has 32000 miles on it, but isn't directly covered by the full warranty any longer since it is too old.

Pole Position
There is a switch on the actual trunk light.
Also, bulbs burn out all over the world all the time... usually the first thing people try when one of their lights stops working is replace the bulb. :P
Pull the whole light housing out from the trunk liner, pop the back off it, put a new bulb in, and put it back together. Takes about a minute. it uses those tubular bulbs with the contacts on either end. I don't know what the official bulb type is, though.
Google should help with that.

Stupid question... I know.
I had thought my trunk light was dead until i realized the previous owner manually turned off the trunk light in the trunk.
I found out it works once turning it "on."
My question: Does it shut off automatically once the trunk is closed? I know this sounds stupid, but I'm worried that the trunk light switch is some manual override and wont shut off unless manually done so...

Yeah there should be a switch on it on the right side just push it in the up or down and see if it will turn on, if not this would be the time to replace the bulb to an LED.
Lead Lap
After closing trunk open the slide through from the back seat to the trunk. That will definitely let you know.
