Hi,
I just purchased a 2008 CPO GS350 and I hear a slight knocking noise when stopped at a light in Drive position. Is this normal and do others experience this same problem? I also found this which seems to be the same problem I am experiencing: http://www.faqs.org/car/lexus-gs350-2009/

What, do you mean... the "chit chit chit chit chit chit chit" sound?

 

Yeah, I would think its the chit chit sound. I hear it only when stopped at a light with the radio off. Just wondering since Lexus is suppose to be a super quiet car. Don't get me wrong, I love the car.

 

Yeah most likely you are hearing the sound of the the direct injection. Apparently more and more high end cars that use DI have been known to make this sound. Made me feel uneasy at first. I had the dealer look and have since read about it in countless posts here and elsewhere that it is indeed "normal."

Someone in another post/thread was suppose to be having "boots" installed over them from lexus to see if it helps. I am curious if it does. Car sounds like a muted diesel at times to me.

It still annoys me sometimes. This is my first DI vehicle and at first I thought there was something wrong with my car. My dad said "it's a $50k car and it sounds like an old junk car when it's idling" and I couldn't agree more :/

Since the GS engine is so quiet and there is almost no exhaust note, this noise is so much more obvious than on other high performance DI cars

 

Agreed. My06 gs300 sounds terrible. It embarrassing.
