Smile Console creaking finally fixed.....by me

I just had service done to the Lexus recently. While there I complained about the constant console creak that I have had for a while. The tech inspected the console and said all of the connection points were solid and clips were tight. They did say that there was a little play in the console and that that may be causing the issue. They quoted me around 1300 dollars for a new console. I said hell no and went home. while driving home the console creak seemed worse. When I went home I did some testing to isolate the exact location of the noise. I isolated it to the left side of the console. What I found was that the console in fact did not have a creak. In fact it was the leather from the chair rubbing against the leather o the side of the console. This rubbing would create that creaking noise. I am a pretty big guy so I am assuming that most people will not have this issue but I know many have complained on the forum so I figured I could give those drivers a heads up.

To fix the issue I simply bought some felt pads with adhesive on the back and placed them on the part of the console that would sometimes make contact with the chair and BOOM>>>>>>>> no more noise. I have to admit I have been enjoying the car more now that its silent again. ( they fixed the dash rattle at the last service as well) . For those interested you can buy these felt pads at home depot or walmart for very little. Good luck and enjoy

for creaking (too tight), you should use silicone grease or some kind of grease.

if it's loose and rattles, then you can use felt.

It's obvious where he put it, in plain sight on the side of the console. It sounds like when he sits in the chair, he pushes the chair's bolster outwards so that it touches the center console and when moving it makes that leather on leather creaking sound.

pics are up guys. Hope it helps. I put the felt pads on the console and the seat . That was probably overkill but I was so frustrated by all of the noise I went nuts. I am sure just doing one side is sufficient . Good luck guys. I am sure this will help the bigger members with this annoying noise.
