Default What would make the perfect electronics package in next GS?

What would you want to see in the next GS in terms of the electronics package. I will start:

1. Downloadable apps so I can customize the interface and functionality.

2. Available apps would include:
a. local weather
b. traffic congestion mapping
c. pandora radio streaming

3. For me, eliminate CD player and replace with Ipod interface.

Also think park assist is useless, wish they would have spent design $$ on the above instead.

Just saying you can do most of that with an android phone or an Iphone, hooked up to the Nav Screen

But those options would be definetly nice. i think Lexus has done a great job with the UI.

Maybe a 3D GPS like a tomtom or something, that would be sweet.

Wow, MelYW, you're so off base from what the typical GS driver would want! You must be the only person I've ever heard referring to Lexus intuitive park assist as "useless". To me it's one of the most useful features of the car.

CD player in the GS is not going away for the next decade. Too many people with large CD collections.

There's no need to replace CD player with iPod interface. The latter is already a part of the latest model year GS cars.

Pandora streaming does not require any apps if you have a smartphone, which many people do these days, and almost everyone will in 5 years. All you need is support for a particular Bluetooth protocol. Many new cars have it, and next generation GS will likely have it. It would be nice to stream straight to the car without the cell phone, but I don't see that happening; the music industry will surely block such initiatives.

There is only one item on my wish list for next generation GS: LET US USE THE SYSTEM WHILE DRIVING!!!! I already have this feature on my 2007 GS since I had the hardware override switch installed. It's awesome to be able to fully use all the features of the car when you actually want to use them.

I would like them to do exactly what the 2011 Audi A8 has, but with a touchscreen and no motion lock.

If Lexus molds the GS into this new mouse crap...that'll be a huge mistake. I love their touchscreen interface. Here's things I think I would enjoy...just from my daily driving

1. Automatic locking of the doors (with sensors to disallow if the keys are in the car)
2. Backseat entertainment package
3. Rear-door shades...like in the LBW LS
4. Traffic/weather
5. Better syncing option for phone books
6. Bi-xenon headlamps...or some other technology that more resembles HID for the DTR lights

I would like to see a navigation system on par with what is put in JDM vehicles. I would like to have 3D imaging/Google Earth. A must is that Lexus keeps the navigation a touch-screen. I hate the mouse/i-drive style controllers. Personally, I think all Lexus's by now should have HID headlights, and LED lights for everything else, blind-spot monitoring system and navigation standard. Most of all, I want the V8 model to continue. Something along the lines of the output from the new BMW 550 and Infiniti M56. I think targeting the GS-F at the speculated range of only 425-450 is sub-par and that the regular V8 model should be about 400-425 range. GS-F ought to be in the 500-525 hp range.

In-car wifi
Traffic/weather through satellite
Bi-xenon
400+ hp out of a forced induction six cylinder with direct injection, variable timing, and still get 30 mpg on the highway

Who cares about blind-spot monitoring? Just adjust your mirrors the right way and the blind spot is eliminated...

"i've never noticed blind spots before when I would drive"

"it's there, how else can you explain that wreck out there, I spilled beer all over me when that car smashed into me. who's gonna pay my cleaning bill?"

I find blind spot monitoring extremely valuable. After driving a few cars with it (my in-laws Audi S5 and Land Rover Range Rover) I would never go with out it. There are countless times when a car sneaks up on the side, or is traveling at the same speed as I am, but in my blind spot without me knowing. Personally for me, self-parallel parking is a gimmick, but the blind-spot monitoring is not. Oh, and no forced induction V6 for me. I get 26 mpg on highway on both of our V8 cars. I am sure a newly advanced/developed V8 should have not problems getting 29-30 on highway.

I agree with all of this.
Especially:
400hp+ V8
Google Earth based nav
Touchscreen
Highly usable voice commands like Sync
Blind spot monitoring
Lane departure warning
Lane departure prevention
Collision prevention
HID+LED lights, no halogen anywhere
Extendable seat cushion with adjustable bolsters

I also hate the mouse. If they go that route than the touchscreen, I'll buy a new Jag XF instead.

I have a bunch of ideas for them, most are implemented by others, but doing all of them in one system would be awesome:

1) Full A2DP support for bluetooth stereo audio streaming from the driver's phone, etc...
2) Rear screens in the headrests, with audio being sent by A2DP to headsets that rear passengers can enjoy (this way it doesn't interfere with drivers sound)
3) Internet connectivity for the vehicle through bluetooth or wifi tethering via the driver's phone or home LAN
4) Using Internet connectivity for realtime traffic, POI searching for Navigation, etc...
5) The ability to set all the presets for A/V and car functions via the web - consumers sign onto a web portal, and settings sync up next time the car is connected via wifi or via bluetooth tethering
6) Ability to send destinations to the car's navigation through a web portal - why bother entering addresses by hand?
7) Ability to sync music collections to onboard storage via wifi
8) Automatic updating of OBD II info to deal via wifi or bluetooth tethering - any vehicle faults would be uploaded for consumer display and dealer service scheduling
9) Ford type auto parking system - works on any grade, in any any angle, and quickly
10) Ability to play video on onboard entertainment system via flash (not just playing DVD's)
11) App store or expandability for NAV/entertainment system using Android as base OS
12) Head up display for speed/cruise control/tach etc/...
13) Ability for passenger to enter data into nav/entertainment system when vehicle is moving (use weight sensor in passenger seat)
14) Better more natural voice integration, including ability to have vehicle send car's status and location via SMS/Email, etc...
15) HD inputs for video games to rear screens (for long trips with the kids)
16) HD radio builtin
17) Multiple aux inputs for front and rear screens (for games, ipod, etc...)
18) Automatic 911 call in case of accident, but also sending SMS/Email alerts for diagnostic messages
19) Multitouch touchscreen integration

That's off the top of my head - I'm sure I'll think of some more...

Nav updates automatically via cell or wi-fi link . . . why should I have to spend $200-300 for an updated map DVD?

I think you may be paying sticker price for the labor and workmanship that went into designing the software (license) not the dvds. DVD's probably cost pennies on the dollar to produce.
