Default Reprogramming a used key fob

I recently purchased a 2006 GS 430 that came with only one key fob. Has anyone purchased a used key fob from ebay and been able to reprogram it? I asked a Toyota dealer and they said I would need to purchase a new key fob to have it programed.

Just check the FCC ID is the same as for the key you have, If the FCC ID matches you should be able to do it.

Call around a few Lexus dealers and see if any of them are willing to do it. Also get quotes. Some charge 30 minutes of labor, some charge an hour, some refuse unless you buy a new fob from them. I would imagine in some less competitive markets, they may refuse to program a used key since you don't have other options.

Also the key insert for emergency lockouts won't work, only the smartkey part will work.

Both of my FOBs worked when I bought my car, but one of the hard lockout keys was incorrect. I bought 5 blanks off ebay and had a local lock place cut me a couple of them for $20. I still have the 3 extra blank blades if anyone needs one. Just drop me postage.

My emergency lockout key works, but the key fob will not open doors or start engine. Toyota dealer said that if there is already a code in the key fob it can't be reprogrammed. The FCC ID #s are the same.

yeah, you can't reprogram a already used key fob... No dealer will do it, and even if you lie to them, they will find out the hard way and be pissed at you LOL

I haven't done this on a Lexus but I am sure it can be done. I have done this on our Infiniti EX35.

Key is to match FCC ID and go to an actual dealer. When I went to the Nissan dealer they didn't have the codes for Infiniti.

I would post this question in the IS and ES forum. They outnumber GS owners so you are more likely to find someone who has done this on a Lexus.

This says it can be done. But they need to reprogram all keys at once. They should do this for 120 dollars.
