Question on Intake for GS
Hi guys,
First of all, please forgive my 'noobness'. I bought the K&N typhoon '07 GS350 cold intake naively thought that it will fit my '06 GS300
And, yesterday I went to a body shop, and (no surprise) they told me that the intake can't be installed because of the misfit bolt/screw holes of the MAF sensor.
Does anyone know whether or not we can "trickly" fit K&N typhoon for '07 GS350 to '06 GS300?
Another question, which one is better: Short Ram intake or Cold air intake? What are the differences?
Please feel free to comment or give me inputs.
Thank you !
-Mike

can you post pics? I am surprised there is any difference. I know my MAF sensor is the same as the GS350/460 and the same as the ISx50. Sounds like you may have the MAF that was used in the 2gen GS?? Never looked under the hood of a 3gen GS300 but that seems odd for it to be different.

. That just what the technician told me. But, I'll try to find out and taking pictures under the hood.

OP if that is what your MAF looks like its the same shape as mine. I dont see how this wont work?? Are you close to any local members that can help you out? Did you go to the dealer or a performance shop?

) to have a better perspective of the problem.Oh, not dealer. I went to a performance shop. In fact, I know some people from the shop so I don't think they are trying to trick me or something. But yeah, thanks for your help again, passnu..really appreciate that.
the silicon's fine tho rofl... it's just a glue, and it takes pretty abusive amounts of heat... like he said, the bolts dont bolt in place, i guess the positioning of the bolts is different on the 300s vs the 350s/430s... so a black silicon glue to hold it down should do the trick =]
hi guys,
I have tried to install the K&N intake myself yesterday. And I found out what was the mechanic meant by the "misfit" screwing point of the MAF sensor.
Also, I took some pictures along the process so that you can have a better perspective of the issue.
No problem removing the intake.

Direct comparison of the OEM and the K&N

The MAF sensor on the K&N

I think the MAF is perfectly fit and air tight to the K&N.

There are 2 problems:
1) Mounting Problem.

2) MAF orientation

What do you guys think?
thanks in advance!

Here is what I would do. Since you already have this and there isnt much for our cars...
I would either have a shop cut the pipe and just use the plastic portion of the OEM that holds the MAF. May not look pretty but it will work and no one will ever see it. Or try a MAF from a GS350 to see if your car likes it.
