The navigation system and almost all GPS's in general only recieve signals from the GPS satellites. They do not transmit anything to them. Therefore it would not be possible to track your car.
Lexus is behind in this department. I know for sure you can with GM and BMW. I.e, you file a police report, and they can track your car or unlock it via BMW assist.

GM's Onstar, BMW's Assist and Mercedes TeleAid, all routes GPS information when requested if your car is stolen.
Instead of getting the 2009 model, maybe you can opt for a a 2010 model. You can probably get this functionality with Toyota's Safety Connect and/or Lexus Enform.

lexus is not lacking. they have a new kind of lexus link system (forgot the new name) that i believe does stuff more or less like bmw and gm.
but the OP asked if gps track car, i don't think it's used that way
to me, i don't really care much for any of them myself. like BinaryJay, if my car is stolen, by all means, stay that way. i don't want to and i don't care to find it again. just total the car and give me money and i go somewhere else. even if the car is found and everything looks intact, i never feel the same anymore
You can get GPS trackers for $150 that you can hide in the car. You put a prepaid SIM card in and it can always tell you where it is via the number. You send a message to the number to get the position or set it up to use the internet to report where it is from time to time. Get the from DealExtreme.com or similar sites...
No you can't. I have installed an Escort Entourage CIS system in my car. It is a GPS tracking system which alerts you if it is moved by an unauthorized driver, and which allows the car to be tracked on Google Maps at any time.
Zoombak is another very good product for this. Both involve subscription fees (as does the Cadillac's add-on option for Onstar to locate your car.
I would recommend if you are concerned about this, or if you want to monitor the driving and speeding of your kids. I got it because I go on month long business trips and I need to know if a theft happens before my car is out of the country.

agree that the car does not feel same if stolen and recovered, but then again maybe it is not stolen in the first place if it is well known that it has a tracker hidden inside.....
