Default Fuel Cleaner Okay???

I think I read somewhere you're not supposed to use the fuel/injector cleaners/additives on the market....that they somehow cause damage to fuel injectors. Anyone else heard that?

First of all, I'm not sure why you want to use the cleaner in the first place. Today's gasoline all ready has additives to prevent deposits from forming on the injectors. Having said that, yes you should be concerned. The same chemicals used to remove deposits not only clean the injector they also eat away at the injector itself. The most common limit with these cleaning systems is three times then the injectors will need to be replaced. I suggest unless you are experiencing problems such as rough idle, hesitation or no power, don't add any of the additives currently on the market.

Well, there is a reason. The 06 GS sometimes hesitates when accelerating. Had the tranny checked several months ago so dealer says it's okay. Next thing is dirty gas. Wifey buys gas from all kind of places. RaceTrack, 7Eleven...whereever it's cheaper. I tell her over an over to only use one of the name brand super but she'll stick cheap stuff and sometimes uses midgrade.
If using the cleaner is an issue, she's just gonna have to deal with it.

I've heard this issue, accelerator lag, before on other GS threads. Unless it's really severe, sounds like the same problem others are having. Buying gas from dubious sources is not a good idea though especially if the station is old or rundown looking. Water that can accumulate in the underground tanks at these old or rundown stations are murder on injectors.

excessive use of fuel injector cleaners (like every other fill up) can cause damage.
I have used a bottle at every other oil change on my last four vehicles and so far no problems.

I am pretty sure its safe. Even with direct injection it should be ok. If you are worried about it you can consult your manual or even call Lexus corporate

Well, I'm not really worried. I think wifey drives too fast anyway. The hesitation slows her down.
Besides, if a member is using it every other fill-up, I should be able to use it once or twice a year....as I have always done.
