it's behind the glove box. put AC on re-circulate, open glove box, take out divider, there is a trap door at the back. pop it out, replace the filter

make absolutely sure AC is on re-ciruclate. that's the most important step, otherwise you'll break the mechanism that controls that and it'll cost $1500 to fix and they'll have to tear your dash out to fix it. and it's not covered under warranty.

 

Not to doubt you guys, but I changed mine without changing the settings and didn't do damage to anything. The car was off of course. Done my parents 07 ES the same way afterward. Maybe they were in recir. already.

 

could be. if it's set to auto it's switching between the two. problem is without re-circulate, the cover over the filter might be close and while you attempt to open it up and take out the filter, you will break the clip and there goes the unit

 

yea, I have the damper door lever on my work bench in the garage at the moment to prove it... take their word for it, its SUPER easy to break, if your not paying attention. Bad design in my opinion. I have not had another car that operates like that.

Well, I think I might have broken my AC. I decided to replace cabin filter by myself for the first time on my 2006 Lexus GS300 and did not know about AC having to be on re-circulate setting. There was a small door that did not want to open easily at first and I heard something pop. I changed my cabin filter. Now, my AC is messed up. The cold works just fine. I'm having issues with heat. The only way that heat works is if I have driver's side on max cold and passenger's side on heat. So basically the driver would be getting max cold and the passenger would be getting heat. This works vice versa too. Passenger will get max cold while the drive gets some heat. How bad is it and could I fix it myself or would I just screw things up even more? I hope I won't have to spend $1500 so if anyone knows of some solutions or could direct my to a guide how to fix it, I would really appreciate it.
