Dashboard Rattles Fixed
I want to bring my car back in for rattle, but I I know theres even more horrible rattles waiting to come out once it gets really cold again.
Rattles from the center, where navigation is
Rattles with sun roof open
Rattles in driver side door
Its sickening to me

Returned back to the dealer this week with the dash creaking again. They removed a few clips from windshield this helped with the creaking on the passenger side. Now we have popcorn sounds from the drivers side. The sales manager wants me to wait thirty days then call him about getting Lexus to buy back the car or the dealer will get me out over the loan taking a loss on the deal. This has been my worst experience with a car. The dash creaks when the weather changes in new england. The sales manager and service manger mentioned that the new GS's have the same issue. I would expect allot more from a 50K purchase. If I did'nt have a CPO car I think I would have been stuck with this rattle box. I will update again when I have more details. Car has 79K. Good luck to all GS owners.

meh. Mine rattles a little over rough roads. sounds like the right side of the dash.
but i've developed a tolerance. Road noise combined with radio = I can't hear it anymore.
what other choice do you have?
ugly e class? way more expensive 5 series?
or the rattlebox brother from another mother- infiniti M.
if you don't want rattles, don't buy japanese. Rattles are standard in nippon cars.

i mentioned my GS300 had teh rattly dash and 3 attempts to fix it had failed. He told me "they fixed all that in the '07 models".
I thought about telling him aboot this forum and just lost the will to fight yet another snake oil salesman. I swear to god if the guy had been honest and said "Yeah, every GS3 made rattles like a tin *****house, what can I tell you. I'll give you $4000 off this here GS 350." I would have traded in my old '06 GS 300 on the spot. Maybe i wouldn't mind the rattles as long as i was going 0-60 in 5.5 seconds.
I still can't find another mid level luxury / sport sedan that looks as good as our GS3. I seriously believe it will go down as one of the timeless classics, purely from a design standpoint. I have people on the street complement me all the time on how good it looks.
This is the only issue that continues to vex what has otherwise been a very satisfying ownership experience for me.
I've tried just about everything mentioned by members on this board over the years, to no avail. I tried the 3m silicone lubricant route (a biotch to get off your dashboard, btw), placing adhesive rubber pads along the bottom of the windshield (in lieu of the sock or strip), etc. I've had it in to the dealer twice, only to have the rattles resurface days or weeks later.
Clearly Toyota/Lexus hasn't made this a priority in the past, and with the list of more "pressing" issues keeping them busy (the GX460 and Sienna just this week) I'm sure this has dropped from their engineer's to-do list entirely.
I love my car and plan on keeping her for a long while yet, but would do almost anything to get rid of this problem. Given how pervasive this is, I'm really surprised someone hasn't figured out a fix yet.
Vendors, if ever there was an opportunity, this has got to be it. Figure out what the issue(s) is(are), develop an effective fix, stick it in a bottle and sell it to just about every GS3 owner out there. I'll even volunteer to help you.

EyeKutr ... being an early and aggressive pioneer in tackling these issues, how have your fixes held up for you over the past couple of years?

i can see the felt strips the dealer added, they did the whole 9 yards. Had the thing over a week. I had them do all the fuel rail and steering rack recalls.
I wonder if this is how late 70's Lincoln owners felt, they had this huge impressive (in its own way) Lincoln Mark V that cost over $20,000 in 1977 (think about that for a minute) and yet it was in the shop every week for recalls up the wazoo. Ford recalled more vehicles than it made in '79. Quality control was abysmal in those days.

My creaks are not temp. dependent, or even rough road dependent. I hear them on butter smooth perfect new asphalt, at all speeds under 50. Not an issue on the highway. But all my low speed stop and go town driving is a creaking nightmare. Yes, I am OCD about it at this point. im sure if the creaking is solved, i'll find some new noise to go OCD on. But hey, us OCD types gravitate towards Lexus because we know all manner of imperfections, perceived or otherwise will drive us insane.
I have had my 07 GS350 to the dealership 4 times for rattles. The dealership is stellar in their attempts to fix my rattles. The rattles are gone for now, but I expect them to be back next winter again, after the car loosens up and the temps drop.
I have been looking at other cars, as I have pretty much given up. I Posted this thread about rattles on the Genesis Forum to see how this new car was faring. Overall, I was impressed at the answers I got.
Does the Genesis suffer from Rattles?

if i took the dash out or windshield out i am going to silicone everything back together, you will never be able to take it apart again, i dont care. only keeping the car a couple years then getting an ls probably.
Hate to say it but this rattle problem is not an issue of a car aging...it is a design flaw from the start.
The only good part about this is that (most) dealers own up to it and try to address it as much as possible.
Personally I'd love to be in the shop when the dash comes out. I would inspect the specific rattle source points...I would then try to get them to felt every single contact point. Wonder if this would be possible...would be worth a day off work to be right there. I just might try this if I have to go in again. I wonder if they would allow this.
Fact is, no one knows your car like you do, perhaps being an aide to the tech by knowing the exact areas could help.
