Default Anyone replaced a headlight assembly?

Hello All,

Wondering how difficult this is. Unfortunately, my wife hit a deer awhile back and damaged the right headlight assy. The lamp bezel is chipped and loose as well as the clear cover and trim are sticking out at the back. Pushed the front of the fender in a bit, but it isn't creased. It's to the point that water is getting inside and the lamp quits working until it dries out. Seems like I should just replace the whole thing. Any input is appreciated.

PM me your email and I will send you the PDF of what and how to remove it for either side. I havent taken them off but its not that bad. I would assume ~ a 4 hour job to do in your garage.

Ii have taken mine out a couple times I had water in my headlight and my ballast got mildew and went out completly. Theres a bunch of clips and bolts that have to be removed. Its easier to take the front wheels off to get to the clips under the car and behind the bumper.

sorry to hear, I had the same issue w/ my wife hitting a deer but little to no damage on mine. Anyhow, below is a link to a thread where I posted instructions on how to remove the bumper cover. Once it's off, the whole headlight assembly is held on w/ 3 (maybe 4 bolts). Should only take ~ 30 min to remove bumper cover and another to re-install. Of course, it'll make it a little easier if you drive the front wheels up onto some stacked 2x6's to get a little more clearance.

Thanks for the replies! Looks simple enough (love the pictures!) Hope to do it this weekend. Tired of the headlight going out and hate the way it looks.

Thumbs up Success!!!

Hello All,

Bet you all thought I forgot about you guys, eh? Nope, just haven't had a chance to make the swap before today. It went very smoothly, mostly due to the great information you provided.: All told, it took me about 3 hours, which included adjusting both light assemblies as I didn't like the fittment. Now it looks better and I can wash it without worrying about it going out. I have pictures if anyone is interested. So, thanks again to all!!!

Congrats Slowride! Had both mine replaced under warranty due to "cracking" that not even the SE regional rep, who approved their replacements, had ever seen (I didn't hit anything). The service writer told me the headlight assemblies cost 1500 each. Hope you got a better deal.

I8ABMR, I think you would be suprised at how easy a job this really is.

My biggest fear was that when I pulled everything apart, there would be bent sheetmetal, not being sure if I could correct it. Fortunately, (unfortunately, in the deer's case) the headlight assy absorbed all of the impact, cracking in several places. Most of my time was spent trying to get everything aligned just right ( I'm a bit of a perfectionist, I'm afraid.)

I heard about the same amount too, Flyinlow. I was able to snag a used one off of ebay for $250. Not sure what the labor would have been at the dealer, but I'm sure I saved a ton of money!
