Default Is this possible?

So the 3GS has the intuitive backup camera where when you throw it into reverse, you can see behind you. I was wondering if it was possible to bypass this somehow and make a switch similar to prestigious remote switch for the navi/dvd where you could see behind you while in Drive.

anything is possible if you throw enough money at it! your best bet would be to consult a reputable car audio shop and see what can be done. let us know if you get this mod to work!

well, it's been proven in the 2is forum. all you need to do (or try?) is to just shift it into R when you are driving the car. the car won't throw into reverse, it will still be in D, but the shifter is in R and the rear view camera will turn on. there is a video about it

throwing the car in reverse while driving? is that safe? lol

well i was thinking.. the camera must be activated by the Reverse gear, similar to how bypasses work by grounding the emergency brake..

Yeah, and when you bring your car in to Lexus for warranty repair and the computer shows you had it in reverse while doing 70mph, and they jack the car up and the tranny falls on the techs head.... yeah - seems dangerous ;-)

on ANOTHER note, the 3GS has an extra aux. switch on the center console. i was thinking maybe i could wire the prestigious navi/dvd switch to this.. hmm..

This could work while the car is in motion, the computer will not throw into reverse. However, if you stop at the light and forget that you have it in R, then I would not want to be the person behind you when the light turns green.....

You guys can turn the camera on while driving...it is in the menu that is accessed by pressing info button and turning lights on and off 3 times....in there there is a way to test the camera and it will show it on...it is pretty weird but I tried it in our gx once..

in the tips and tricks thread it says to access that menu by pressing the start button twice but not turning the car on. can you still access this menu if the car is running?
