Default Lights upgrade.

I have factory HIDs on low beams. The fogs and highs are stock. I have plenty of light, but I don't like the yellowish halogen lights color, I want to make them white or blue. I don't want to mess with ballasts, aftermarket HIDs, etc.

I found this, will call it a Plan A:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GP-85...Q5fAccessories

and the Plan B:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/XD5-5...Q5fAccessories

Does anybody know anything about these lights? They both look blueish to me, and that's exactly what i want. Which ones should I pick? Anybody has a Plan C in mind?

Thanks.

In both cases you are selecting bulbs that are over the wattage rating for the socket....be careful as this can cause melting of the wiring harness. In addition you will get what you pay for. This appear to be very cheap bulbs and I would be surprised if you find yourself with burned out bulbs in a few months.

I suggest you look at reputable bulb names, PIAA, Rayberg, Hella, etc.

The fog bulb is a 9006 (HB4) and rated for 55w
The high beam bulb is a 9005 (HB3) and rated for 60W.

Personally, I seek the same appearence as you. I am about to put a set of PIAA Spark Blue (7500k) bulbs in my fogs to see what color they look like. These were JDM (via eBay). If these are too blue, then I will try the PIAA Intense White Bulb (4800k) available in the states. Currently in my high beams are PIAA Xtreme White bulbs. I want those for illumination not looks.

I agree with Stevie on this, i got PIAA Xtreme White bulbs for both fog and high beams. The high beam shines like the stock bulb as day time running lights probably because of the low voltage but when you use the high beam it looks and shines white. The fogs though are white and look white but you can see as your driving it not as white as your HID stock bulb.

so you want blue fog lights and stock yellow low beams ? If you change your high beams to blue they will still be yellow when you have your DRL on... Do you drive with your high beams on alot ?

I went with V-leds.com for DRL...and just order Garax for low & fogs...see picture below when DRL is on during daytime...note: you will lose your high beams if you go with Vleds for DRL due to the relay module harness with put out more power. If you decide to buy the Vleds DRL...make sure you buy the relay module with it or else your lights will flick.

I am not worried about the melting because I've been running PIAA superwhite bulbs on my Mercedes for almost 10 years with no problems, and they are 110W-low/130W-high. and I'm talking the true wattage rating, not the "performes like...." thing.

No, I don't want any yellow, I want something similar to the HID. Yes, I do use my high beams quite a bit, I don't live in LA or NY. I live in the farmlands of Oregon, a lot of open roads here.

sorry to burst your bubble, but if you are running PIAA bulbs then you are most definately not running 110w or 130w. This is PIAAs marketing: you have a bulb that draws 55w but shines like 110 watts, and a 65w bulb that shines like a 130w bulb. You got to read the fine print. If you want to find out for real, take out one of the PIAA bulbs from your MB and look at the bottom of the casing. You will see PIAA, the bulb number, 120v and the power consumption. I think you will find this number to be 55w and 65w depending on the bulb you pull.

If a bulb states it draws 80w and you are putting it in a 55w recepticle, then expect wiring meltdown at some point in time, expecially if you have the foglights on all the time.

You may be right, but when one of them burned out, I bough a pair of PIAA lights that said that it draws 55, but performs like 130. I put one in, and it was much dimmer then the old one. I called the place I got it from, and they told me that my old lights (one of which burned out) were for off road use only and that PIAA discontinued them. I then found a set on e-bay and bought it, so I have a spare now.

And I looked at the spare and it does say 80W. Again, no melting in almost 10 years of use.

arnieosp, if your old PIAA was truely a 130 watt blub, it would have blown the fuse on the MB. Its only a 10 A fuse

What kind of car are you referring to? I am thinking of getting a CPO 2008 GS350 (returned from a lease w/ less than 10k miles). From what I've read, they are HID already. But are you saying their HID is still yellow? If that is the case, I am interested in this thread too. I like blue or white.

The low beams are HID, typical white/blueish tint. The Highs and the Fogs are halogens, kinda yellowish.
