Does anyone know if the '09 GS has auto-dimming driver-side and passenger-side mirrors? I just drove mine in the rain for an hour and while the center rear-view mirror definitely had auto-dimming, the side ones don't seem to have it. I can't find this information on the Lexus site through their "feature search"
If that's the case, I'm kinda surprised since my last car cost $16k less and had those ...
Do you know if there's a switch that turns them on/off? They're definitely not nearly as effective as my last car (Toyota Avalon Limited), and I'd think things should be fairly similar between Toyota and Lexus ...
iirc, the side mirrors are controlled together with the center rear view mirror. so that button controls all. playing from my memory though
That is correct. However, the side mirrors don't dim as much as the rear-view mirror. For me the degree to which side mirrors dim is perfectly sufficient to avoid being blinded by headlights of the cars to my side, but still be able to see objects.

Agreed! Glad I have it when I have a monster truck behind me with 10K HID's. Fine piece of technology!

On the back of the driver and passenger mirrors, if you take them off, you will see two plugs. One labelled W (White Color) and the other B (Black Color) on the mirror, presumably because mechanics put it on backwards easily, due to the wires all being brown and one blue of 4 total. This is important because when my mirror faded and the auto-chrome didn't work, to turn blue at night. This occurred with 110+ summer heat while parked for the day outside in the sun, so I decided to replace it. The shop (installed) switched the plugs and it stopped auto-dimming, all the other functions worked like moving up and down, and tilting down when reversing. My advice, make sure they have not been switched. In addition, the rearview mirror is sensor controls the auto-dimming on the outside mirrors.
Are they heated as well? They didn't look like they dimmed that much when I drove last night. But I was never blinded.
I have a Lexus GS300 2006 RWD, on my particular model and options I did not buy heated. My mirrors only have auto-dimming & tilt down when reversing.
One interesting thing I noticed--when I installed the new mirror (2018 part) which was the same model part number as the one the car came with 87961-50430 for the LH drivers side it dimmed LESS than the older one which got very dark blue. I can only guess that when it gets old it sends too much dimming autochrome material to the cells. Some people complain about this on Lexus forums when they have tinted windows they can't see anything.
Hope this helps a bit.

Reason: Adding information about new mirror install - Affects dimming.
