Need some quick advice. I have 20's on my GS and my rear tires are 275/30/20. I noticed I had a low tire so I threw the original on while I got a new tire on order. I just realized (or thought about it) that they have a different diameter. Question is this, is it okay to drive like this? Don't want to ruin anything. A quick answer would be great so I can plan accordingly tomorrow.
thanks so much
for short time, it should be fine. of course your car will pull
and i would really try to avoid driving like that for too long, especially if the out of spec is happening in the rear wheel. that can generate quite some heat in the differential i suppose
It is a temporary spare not to be driven for a long time. It's designed to get you out of harms way until you can get your tire fixed at the nearest opportunity.
well it doesn't have to be the spare. since he has aftermarket wheels he can put on original wheels. but still, that would be out of spec and i still don't think it's good idea to run long especially in the rear (the differential)
Thanks Rominl. Discount Tire had to order my tire and it will be here in a few days. Also you are right, I did just through a stock rim back on. Pretty much I wanted to know if it would harm my engine to drive like that and you answered my question. I don't plan on driving it very much in the next few days, usually don't drive it much on the weekends cuz we are always driving the baby-mover.
thanks again.
when i had my gs400 and sc430 with oversized 20s, what i was told is if i had a flat in the rear, take off one of the front wheel and put it in the rear, so the rear rolling diameters are close enough, and put the spare in the front.
