Depending what insurance you have. I know if you have 21st Century insurance. Withing the first year of coverage, if your car gets total loss. They will pay for the full amount of the car and get you a brand new one. Of course minus the deductible, which can be $0 to $1000. If i were you, i would definately call your insurance company or agent and find out wat are your coverages and choices.

My sympathies to you. I know exactly how you feel. My almost new 2007 GS450 was involved in a rear-end collision (my fault) at very low speed, and the damage was a whooping $6,500; and I did not have any airbag deployments. So even before I came across your later post I was figuring a minimum $12,000 damage. I really hope you get a new car out of the insurance company. Good luck!

Wife grazed a pole on our 07 GS and it came to 4K. That estimate has to be over 20k with a quality shop. I would push full throttle for a total. No way would I want that car back.

Morons like that create even more road rage...sounds like you kept your cool throughout...no neck pain or anything? i'm sure there are some chiropractors on here that would be glad to help you out

I wouldn't think the car would be totaled but I would be mad if not.
If you were to ever go trade in the car or sell it, you are royally screwed and you would probably have to disclose the accident. I wouldn't buy a car that had $20K worth of damage and 2nd life airbag system in it.

anyway, sorry to hear the news. i;m just made i discovered 3 very light dings on my driverside....first door dings i've had on a car in 5 years...grrrrrr!

good luck.

Mm..kinda. Long story short I lost my place in line at the Cerritos Collision Center(my fault though). So I'm probably going to get a real quote sometime this week. Also police report will be out this week probably before Saturday. So yeah, the anger has subsided and now I'm just car-less. Haha, I'm most sad about not having my car at the Luau =[ But tis k once I get my car if i do(knock on wood) it's rims for her and a front lip

Thanks again for all that care. It's not a nice feeling seeing a 3GS messed up, especially when its yours =P

My last car got rear-ended the day after Thanksgiving. It was the most miserable experience. We were about one week prior to trading it in on an IS350. We'd already been to the dealership, negotiated a price and everything. It made me sick.

My car ('04 Maxima) received just under $8k in damage and it was in the shop for around 6 weeks. Then we had to battle Farmers for diminished value and wait for the check. Then life got in the way.

By the time we were finally ready to trade in my Nissan, an IS350 was nowhere to be found (with my color combination) in the lower US and we ended up with my GS350 instead.

The good news out of all of this, is my daughter, who was driving my car at the time, was not injured. She came close to being pushed into oncoming traffic and it could have been much worse. I'm glad you're okay, but trust me, I know how bad it bites to see your car like that.

Dude wtf, you WANT it totalled, you don't want that thing repaired. Are you out of your mind? The diminished value, the carfax red marks, the fact that the car will never be the same after repairs, you DO want it totalled. w/ the money you get from the crash just get a new one or something else, but get out of this one.

As I said before I'm not going to sell the car so the decreased value of the car can be omitted. I'm getting it repaired at Cerritos Collision Center and if I can remember the guy said they're the only one in SoCal that are Lexus approved or something along those lines. And there's only 12 of them in the United States. And I hate the 2008 refreshes enough that I would rather keep my 07 or wait for an 09 and look at the differences. Of course a car is never the same again after a crash, but HOW different can it possibly be?

Longo Collision center is also lexus approved and there service mgith be better but cerritos is good never heard anything about them!!!

A car can run different after a crash depending on how the frame was bent or something like that, read it motortrend....lol

It depends on the amount of damage and how well it is repaired. If your frame is bent, and it is not properly repaired (I don't even know if it is possible to fully restore a bent frame on a GS), then you may have alignment and other suspension issues for the rest of the car's life.

The pictures of your collision looked pretty bad. I honestly believe that you might be the only person alive who would choose to repair such damage instead of getting a replacement new cars, if the two scenarios are fairly close to each other financially.
