Will the noise that's talked about in the TSB get worse and eventually lead to mechanical failure, or is it just a noise?

It's normal... Nothing is gonna get worst... I took mine to the dealer for that too and before I could even finish explaining, they already knew wat I was talkin about and they said it's normal... Don't worry it's fine.. U just gotta deal with that noise every once in a while

I am of the opinion that if you have a car that has always been quiet and smooth and suddenly you have a noise -any kind of noise -upon start up, it will not fix itself or go away. I had the same noise that you all are talking about in my 06 GS300. I heard it random at first then I started hearing it every time I started the car, so yes- it will become a noise that you hear every time you start the car and it will get a bit louder over time. The dealer fixed the cam shaft sprocket under the drive train warranty. Perfect ever since.

Just so you guys know I had the chattering noise for about 2-3 months. I kept complaining about the noise to the dealership, but they needed to "Replicate the Problem".

I got so fed up I started to record the noise. I went to the service department and played them a video with the noise. After hearing it in 3 different videos of my car, they decided to take care of the cam shaft issue.

Apparently, the 06 GS is not listed under the TSIB but the technician who watch the video with the service consultant says it does in fact effect the 06 also. Needless to say they fixed on 4 days ago, and I havent heard the noise since. Now im a happy Camper.

Default Start up noise

I had this same issue and from researching the noise diagnosed it myself as the camshaft TSB issue. It starts usually only when the car sits overnight, or for several hours, and only once in 10 starts or so, but by the time I was ready to take it in, it was doing it more frequently.

To those of you that said the dealer is not able to reproduce - I made sure that I got mine on video(iphone video works great), because I was worried that I would take it in and they would not be able to reproduce. I went in armed with the video, showed it to the advisor and he asked me to email it to him so he could play it for the tech.

The repair is expensive (almost 1400), but since the repair, I have not had one noise at start up. Luckily, I had extended warranty....but if you are under 70K miles, it should be covered by the powertrain warranty....Good luck.

Heard this noise for the first time on Sunday twice and once on Monday. Called dealer and told him the problem he described the sound to the tee and said there is a service bulletin Cam gear. Dropped the car off today will see what happens.

My 07GS started doing that a couple months back....like someone already mention here it does about 10-15 starts...
Thinking on take it in and see what are the chances of having it fixed while still under warranty.

Cheers.

I've also noticed the noise of late, particularly because it manifests itself more often ( and my wife also commented on it lately). A previous poster noted the dealer advised it was normal, however I'm concerned because it's happening more often. My thought is because of its increasing frequency, it's not a 'normal' issue, and something is amiss and becoming worse. My intention is to contact the dealer soon and schedule an appointment. I have an '07 GS with a VIN # which puts it in the affected range, per the TSIB.

Dealer called this morning and said they will conduct the repair. Had all parts in stock less a gasket. Should get the car back on Friday.

Got the car back today. TSB called for Cam gear repair. All in all it cost $1.2K under warranty; also got oil change and tire rotation.
