Default 350 or 460?

I'm looking into picking up a GS pretty soon but was concerned over power issues. Although some people prefer having a lot of power, I for one am looking for the laid back, cruise mode VIP/JDM scene. I would like to know some of your thoughts. If the the 3.5 motor can easily get the GS going (ex. in the event of needing to speed up to quickly change lanes in order to avoid an accident) then I'd settle for that than the V8 4.6 motor. So please, your thoughts are most welcomed.

I think the 350 has more than enough power to get the car moving. If you dont need the awd get the 460!.... unless u need the awd.

if that's what you need, the 350 is more than capable. 300 horses are a lot to spare.

If you are a laid back and cruise kind of driver, than the 350 is more than enough hp for your driving style. The 350 can easily pass most cars on the highway.

Get the GS350. The GS460 isn't that much quicker, unless you plan on racing at above 100mph. The GS350's gearing more than makes up for the hp/torque. Not to mention, you'll only feel faster in the GS460 because of the low end torque.

my personal belief is to buy the best of any particular model so no regrets, and that's what I'll always believe

HAHA! I like the way you think. But I figure I'd save the money that would give me the V8 and the 8-speed tranny so that i can slap on an air runner air bag system.

But having an 8-speed auto trans would still be a great thing too!

it's smoother than the 6 speed, but that's about it. trust me, i know

i also agree with kev about getting the best, but to me engine size is one thing i will "select" and usually just max out the other options. that's my personal cut off on the "price difference"

Ha, I like your thinking

But for the GS, is the 460 or the 450H considered the high end model?

hehe, two ways to see it i guess. you can say that they are all "gs" or thre are two levels in there as well, one being more popular and economical, and one for the premium group

You might wanna consider fuel efficiency on your decision factor as well. I avg 25mpg and thats driving 90% on the highway 5 days a week. I can't imagine what it would be on the 460. The V6 has more than enough pulling power. The gearing is just right for it and if you need more response, you can always switch to manual mode.

I avg 23.4mpg on the 460, 80mph on 2100rpm seriously helps the gas a lot. 60mph is like 1800rpm

and sorry, higher the number = higher the model

460>450h

well, all kidding aside, 460 has more hp, all the options that the H has and 8sp (Lexus' so called first in the world)

it simply just doesn't get that much attention from Lexus since it's not selling well and Lexus is heavily promoting the hybrid line.
