I too believe the 350 has a good "passing gear". IMHO

i can also comment on the mpg since i had the ls460l before (even heavier than the gs460)

on the same routes and same driving habit, i avg 23mpg in the ls460l and 24mpg in the gs350. so personally i don't consider gas mileage a factor at all. i was actually surprised at the gas mileage of the ls460l. on highway cruising speed, you can get 30mpg pretty easy

Really, the 350 has plenty of horses to do the job...if you have extra $$ to burn then fine...but I think it is diminishing returns for the extra spend.

BTW, in terms of MPG, I am getting 21.8 with mostly HWY on my AWD GS (average MPH is around 48, so lots of HWY)...hope that it will improve as the engine loosens up...still at under 1,500 miles on the odo.

Default Acceleration, absolutely. Raw power, nope.

If the the 3.5 motor can easily get the GS going (ex. in the event of needing to speed up to quickly change lanes in order to avoid an accident) then I'd settle for that than the V8 4.6 motor. So please, your thoughts are most welcomed.
If you are interested in accelerating quickly to get on a freeway or to pass a car, the 350 will give you plenty of power. (I've got a GS350, which I am EXTREMELY happy with.)

But if you're looking for raw power that gives you that wow feeling when you floor it, the 350 does NOT do that. Whether the 460 will, I have no idea.

I still miss my Chevy 409 from high school, which gave me lotsl of wow moments.

I'm at 1,400 miles on my 2008 GS350 RWD and have averaged 18.6 MPG overall thus far, with fill-ups ranging from 16.6 MPG to 22.1 MPG.

I would suggest you to "test drive" both 350 and 460, compare both cars on the concerns you have, have the sales explain the engine difference, etc. What you feel is the most important. I never buy a car solely based on people's recommendations.
