Default K&N drop in filter question

Ok, so i bought the K&N drop in filter online at E-bay and the seller has an auction for a 2007 GS 350 K&N drop in filter...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/K-N-A...3286.m20.l1116

Now when I get my confirmation email saying its being shipped I notice it says for a 2006 IS 250/350... I told him I hope they are sending the right part and he tells me this item fits 12 different Lexus models.. Does any one know if this is true ?

5-8 HP gain? Are you serious? Most cars gain nothing in the form of HP from a K&N drop in. I use K&N and TRD drop in on all my cars, but usually dont notice any power gain from a drop in, maybe a little on the top end. The reason I use it is to save money, not for performance.

yes, I am serious... It does add atleast 5hp and No you probably won't notice that small difference... I am using it temporarily until I get a real Intake system... I just wanted something for now...

I would pass on the K&N, but check out the link and draw your own conclusions.

I dont know about that rey, I think 5-8 hp gain from a drop in air filter is a pipe dream. Even the K&N site only claim a 1-4 horsepower gain:

http://www.knfilters.com/filtercharger.htm

That means most of the time you gain nothing. In fact, there have been quite a few independent studies and dyno runs that show K&N drop ins gain no horsepower or very very little. Here is wab site from a guy who did his own dyno run and found no power gain what so ever.

http://www.jackphelps.com/frontier/dynoknfilter.htm

If you want a 4 or 5 horsepower gain, you need to install a K&N cold air intake.

I have purchased a K&N Drop in for my previous vehicles in the past. I never bought it for the performance aspect, it was more for longevity and the re usability that was most appealing.

I just installed my K&N filter earlier 2day, it literally took me 2 minutes to replace... My stock filter was really dirty with all this debris on the bottom side... I did not know it would be that easy... No tools required at all... The filter was already pre-greased so no mess !!!

I also installed a TYC carbon air filter for my AC... WOW, what a difference... No more moldy/ old air smell coming out of my a/c... If you guys have not replace your cabin air filter, I highly recommend it... Thats also took 2 minutes to install... (It is located in the glove box, behind the T shaped shelf for those who did not know.)

carbon? um... ok. I don't see anything wrong with a regular lexus one... since all filters do get old and need to be changed. I would hope it smells better after changing the filter, otherwise something might have died in your car.

But yeah, if I get a drop it... it will be the k&n so i can just clean it or w/e and reuse.
