carbon? um... ok. I don't see anything wrong with a regular lexus one... since all filters do get old and need to be changed. I would hope it smells better after changing the filter, otherwise something might have died in your car.
But yeah, if I get a drop it... it will be the k&n so i can just clean it or w/e and reuse.
LOL, nothing died in my car...
"Activated carbon air filters consist of a vast system of pores of molecular size. These pores are highly adsorbent, forming a strong chemical bond/attraction to odorous, gaseous, and liquid contaminates. Activated carbon is a charcoal that is treated with oxygen in order to open up millions of tiny pores between the carbon atoms, resulting in a highly adsorbent material.
What would you rather have, the normal air filter made out of paper ? Or a carbon air purifier ?
K&N Filter use oils to collect dust / debris with their filters. The improper or over use of these oils can damage / decrease performance of MAF sensor, ultimately taking away from performance.
OEM Drop in Paper filters do a good job, are a lot cheaper and will perform equally well. Cold air intakes work well, typically improving low end power at the sacrifice of high end.
I don’t think lexus engineers did a bad job designing the factory intake, its thick plastic / abs material may help to reduce warm air being sucked in. Live and learn
yeah, over oiling can cause MAF sensor failure. Thats why I always change out the K&N or the TRD filters every 2 years instead of re-oiling. The price is double the oem's but it last twice as long, so it comes out even.

Thats a great Idea, I'm going to do the same....Nice work

A side note : The Japanese manufacturers are really cheap and they do anything to save money... Trust me, my sister and her husband work at Toyota/Lexus headquarters in California and she always tells me stuff all the time... I'm sure they can make the intake a little better instead of using that ABS plastic...
