Engine Comparison: LS460 vs. GS460 w/ engine cover off - Pictures
Per request, I've taken my engine cover off to show what's underneath, I did my research and I was maybe wrong about the GS460 being direct injection (I can find about 3 sources online stating it is, but they were probably just quoting on the LS460 and misleading press release from Lexus didn't help)
Here are the differences:
Pictures:
LS460 Engine (found it online, didn't take this)
GS460 Engine (mine)
HOWEVER, Lexus press release still states GS460 has 1UR-FSE, which i now believe is a typo and could explain why I never hear this "infamous" direct injection noise.
Unless we get confirmation from Lexus engineer, I guess this is still up for debate. Hope this at least helps to explain the lack of full hp from the flagship LS.
Here are the differences:
- GS460 has 32hp & 28lb-tq less than the LS460
- GS460 has single air intake setup compared to the dual on the LS.
- GS460 (1UR-FE) vs LS460 (1UR-FSE)
- GS460 has Sequential Multiport Fuel Injection (SFI)
- 1UR-FE is based on the 1UR-FSE but lacks the gasoline direct injection D-4S technology.

Now look at the difference in the stock air intake on the LS compared to the GS. That looks like the same GS air filter box the GS 400 had.
Also is it just me of 1/2 of Kev's GS engine bay painted white in front? Its usually black. That is odd, no?
I am comparing where the oil cap is and the battery placement. I guess the GS engine bay is not large enough for both dual intakes without another possible "hood bulge".
This is very very interesting.
Are the LS/GS 460 compressions the same? I wonder if you gave the GS 460 a bigger intake/Ram Air/forced some more air into the engine would you have a significant gain in power?

believe me ryan was frustrated too, coz' i also bugged him.
personally i would trust the info on their website more at this point, rather than their press months ago.
looking at the engine bay, yes, i think it doesn't have enough room for dual intake. it's funny coz' i have both cars in the garage and while the ls460 is larger, it's amazing how much more space the engine bay has huh
the design of the gs460 intake looks like the old gs400/430. but it seems like the pipe is larger than before (understandable).
