Default GS shift ****

Is the shift **** on the GS really leather and wood, it feels more like plastic and wood. Anyone have any pictures of after market shift **** installed?

the nice thing about the stock shifter is that it matches the interior

I have read that Lexus wood trim in any one vehicle all comes from the same tree. This is how they try to keep the wood consistent. I personally dont know if it makes that much difference (coming from the same tree), but i believe it is more of a sales pitch than anything. So, yes i do believe the shift **** is leather/wood. (This in my opinion is similar to the way the glove box, cup holder, ash tray etc all open at precisely the same speeds) They want consistency.

Lexus also try to match the grain of the wood in their trims also. The attention to details is endless.

I know what you mean about it not feeling like "real" leather. Certainly the leather on the doors is different than the leather of the seats. Maybe they just use more hardeners in the leather for items like doors and shift ****, etc.

I am not sure about this but I think the leather on the door is actually fake leather, just like the seat's side and back and the leather in the center console. The seats are leather trim, meaning only the center of the seat is leather and I believe the center arm rest is leather too, but the shift ****'s leather still have me puzzled.

Yeah they are real wood, actually they are wood veneers. I had to replace a 10 inch wood trim on my last Lexus, it was like $550 for parts only.

^^

All Lexus wood trim is genuine and procured from sustainable sources;[41] each wood inlay in a single vehicle is selected from the same tree for a consistent appearance. Console wood is bird's eye maple from sustainable plantations in Canada and it's finished by piano-building craftsmen at Yamaha.

This was originally 6MTIS250's post. I think he's the only one who has pics of a aftermarket shift ****.
