Default GS460 Direct Injection

Just to confirm - the GS460 does not have direct injection?

Why do you think they left it out? Any reason other than cost?

Does it really matter?

Are there any advantages to not having direct injection (engine life etc)?

The GS460 has both Direct and Port fuel injection.

Taken from Lexus' website:

"342-hp V8 (GS 460)
With a 342-horsepower [1], 4.6-liter V8 engine as well as direct and port injection, the GS 460 can go from 0 to 60 in a mere 5.4 seconds [1] [2]."

Check this article:

maybe it doesn't have the same direct injection as the LS?

or are Australian cars different than the NA version?

the hp is the same as the NA version anyway...

Do they still have the GS300 in Australia? Maybe Lexus did up the power for the US version only.

why does the direct injection have to be so noisy? Generally they say 20%more power and 20% more efficency, but at the cost of ticking sounds at idle

Its not just the direct injection engines, there are many Toyota owners with the 3.5 V6 engine that has the ticking noise too. Many owners are pointing to the lifter.

Direct injection is loud because the injectors are functioning at pressures of in excesss of 1000 psi, while port fuel injectors function at pressures around 50 psi. Basically, the direct injectors have to open and close with brute force because of the pressure, and the fact that they are firing into an active combusion chamber. Its not only the injectors that you're hearing, but also the fuel pump mounted on the valve cover as well.

^ Prolly because the LS is the flagship and has more insulation in the cabin. I bet if you were standing outside, it'll sound the same as the GS. . .

I wondering if it has to do with the Engine more than sound insulation. The RAV4 V6, RX350 have basically the same V6 engine minus the direct injection. You go to either one of these forum and you will find a number of threads about engine ticking.

^ Its recommended to run 87 in a Rav4 (or any Toyota, even the Camry hybrid). The Rx should definitely get at least 89 if not a steady diet of 91...

Most RX will not knock on 87 octane, it just puts out less power. The complain is the same, pinging sound when engine is cold.

Default Updated engine spec info

Hey all,

Now I have been seeing tons of mixed information floating around numerous threads pertaining to whether or not the GS460 has direct injection. Considering this thread's title, I figued this would be the best one to post the information I found.

My brother is a Lexus tech and he pulled up a service bulletin for motor identification and it proves that the GS460 DOES have direct injection. As you can see in the picture below, the 1UR-FSE motor is being used.

I think there may have been alot of confusion with people mistaking the GX460 as it does have the 1UR-FE which isn't DI. Hope this clears things up for those of you that have the 460 as I know it did me. I am going to update the wiki sites as they are showing wrong as well.
