This sounds pretty similar to the problems I had with my 535i bmw. It can be due to the fuel system.

I have this exact problem also. '08 GS350 AWD under 500miles on it and 4 times now it's not started when trying.

I took it into the shop today and spoke to the senior technician. He indicated that this is a 'big problem' and Lexus is working very hard to find the cause and then identify the solution. They agreed there was no pattern to when the issue occured, hot, cold, wet, dry, day, night, first start of day, 2nd...etc. It's random. Exactly the experience I had. He indicated the Lexus engineers were here in the states this week trying to replicate and diagnose what was happening.

He mentioned that no one was being 'stranded' by the problem... thus it should start after the 2nd or 3rd try... but it was #1 on their list of problems to solve.

Unfortunately, no solution yet, but they continue to work on it.

Hmm.. GS350 was direction injection from the begining (2007) and this only happens to 2008 model. Wonder what has changed???

I wouldnt give a damn what the problem is . The only thing I would care about is making lexus take care of this ASAP. I know lexus builds reliable cars, but this forum has definetly opened my eyes to the fact that they are not perfect. I think its the curse of the new model. When I bought my last car it was the first gen and brand new earliest version of the car. On one ocassion they had the ***** to tell me to be patient bec they were still "learning the car", and they would find a solution sooner or later. Man I wish you luck

In an imaginary world, nothing ever breaks and if by some strange circumstance something did break there would be an instant fix.
Truth is this is the real world. Things do break and sometimes it takes a little time to resolve these issues. It doesnt matter what profession you have there are things that break and/or go wrong and these things dont always get fixed overnight. Most of the time they dont get fixed overnight.
I would rather wait for the proper repair instead of alot of new parts thrown at my car and still have the same problem.
Something tells me the problem is between the "push button" and the engine immobilizer system. If the engine cranks then the vehicle must recognize the smart key so the key battery is good. Actually the engine will still crank if you remove the battery from the key completely. The push button has to have at least two primary functions. One is to engage starter and the other is the communicate with immobilizer system. I am betting on a loss of immobilizer communication in some form or another.

I'm just surprised an issue this major got through their quality assurance. On top of that this is not a first year of a new design model.

If it was the dash rattle issue or something like that, it would be acceptable maybe, but having to keep cranking your car to get it started...I'm embarrassed just starting the car in a parking lot with people staring at me wondering what the heck is wrong with that dude's Lexus haha.

seems to be targeting toward 08's AWD...

I've seen this problem happened to my friend's 2006 GS430 once...

wonder what the real problem is, please keep us updated, I hope I won't have to experience this...

I have a GS300 06 model bought in 05 and it has done this about 5 times in the approx 3 years I have owned it. 3 of the times it happened, the car was on an incline because i had it on those ramps used to raise the car so I could do an oil change. Most here seem to think it is only affecting the newer models but this is not the case.

Default My 2008 GS AWD has same problem

Almost consistent for me ... requires 1-2 no-starts on engine ignition once or twice a day since I got the new car a couple of months ago. Essentially, the problem is that the engine is flooded with gas incorrectly. The multi-starts is essentially, then trying to burn off the excess gas (which by the way leaves a very strong smell of fuel especially if parked indoors.) My dealership has indicated that the problem lies in the programming system of which Lexus is working on.

Shocking that I've been waiting over 8 weeks and still counting for a fix. Similar to other posts, this is both an nuisance and an enormous embarrassment as colleagues, clients, and friends always stare in disbelief especially when told how long I've been waiting for a fix.

i doubt that qualifies as an lemon... Fixes for issues just found take more than few weeks and few clicks of the mouse.

My 07 experiences this issue only when I move gearshift sooner than car turns on :P
