Default 08 GS350 vs 02 SC430

im curious which car is faster, i know the GS350 has more horsepower(303) then the Sc430 (290) but the sc430 has more torq.
facts SC430 0-60 5.9sec 1/4m 14.4
GS350 0-60 5.7sec 1/4m 14.1

1. lets say on the express way which car would win.
2. lets say from light to light which car would win
3. last ? when does horsepower matters the most. on take off or when u are already going 80mph on freeway.
thanks in advance

1) sc430 hands down. v8 = tq = FTW!
2) once again tq FTW
3) again TQ owns!!! 80mph rolling... sc430 due to tq. dig... its either way untill tq kicks in and if both cars have traction then the sc430 will win. BUT weight has a factor in it as well.

it all depends on the powerband for hp/tq to be important. big displacement motors usually have a lot of low end power but die out top end. on the other hand, cars like integras and civic have low end power and a good top end which can be a deciding factor as to who will win.

well, i had sc430 before, and now gs350, so i guess i can give you some info

from a stop light to 60, i actually think the gs350 will win. the sc430 is heavy and the gs350 has a bit better high rpm pull

however, on the highway pick up, the sc430 will pull away from the gs350. you can't beat the tq on the v8. it's massive. one thing i miss a lot in the gs350 (vs our gs400, sc430, and ls460l) is the tq. when i am on the freeway and want to take over, i floor it on the v8 cars and i am completely pushed to the seat and the car just pulls. the gs350 will rev high and go (don't get me wrong, still fast), but it doesn't feel the same. and of course, when you enter 90+mph, the v6 vs v8 start to show

think of it this way. hp shows how fast you can go, and tq shows how fast you get there. (not always true, but just an idea).

overall, i would say i still miss the v8, low rpm and the tq is right there when you want it, vs higher rev v6 where you get the power.

In a broad generalization of physics:

Higher horsepower = faster acceleration from a stop, higher top speed. (GS350 advantage)

Higher torque = faster acceleration while moving (and for trucks: better towing capability). (SC430 advantage, especially with the smoother V8.)

That is not always the case. Gearing is also a key factor. You can have high horsepower, low torque, but doesn't necessarily mean you'll have faster accelleration.

i get what yall are saying about the V6 vs V8 but i dont get how the SC430 will still beat the GS350 if the GS is faster from 0-60 and faster in 1/4 mile. so are yall saying that once u past the 1/4 mile the SC430 will start to pull away from the GS. for an example lets say when do u think the SC430 would catch the GS350.
1mile or are yall saying like in a 5 mile race.
im curious bc i my cousin has a sc430 and he wants to race me. so im trying to get the advantage on him thanks in advance again, i was going to try and intake but i keep getn mixed answers. some people says its a difference in power then some says its not.

Momentum is the key. I think your cousin in the SC430 might have a better chance at pulling away after 60mph as he has more torque on hand. The fatter torque curve of the 3UZ-FE will help the SC430 pull ahead of the GS350. I would say you guys would be close at about 60-70 but once you near the 100 mark, it wouldn't be surprising to see the SC ahead.

My friend has a SC430 as well... he has simple mods done to it. Headers for one... 40hp+... he said someone dyno'd stock and then headers and thats what they got. His car has I/H/E and it pulls very nicely. I haven't and doubt I will race him. If I do its for fun.

From a car review perspective an AWD GS 350 got a 5.3 second run in C&D. I've never seen a SC 430 close to that number.
Lexus quoted the SC 430 0-60 in 5.9 and GS 350 at 5.7

Henry also has the real world experience and Philip/Flips are right with the Physics.

Let's not leave out the driver.
I've left several people behind who were not courageous or skillful enough to punch it. If there's any traffic, navigating it safely during high speed runs is essential. On an empty road in a straight line, I agree with the others. The GS should be right there at the start but after it wound out, the extra torque of the SC should have an advantage.

and i suggest leave the driver out of these types of discussions. coz' in that case, put someone who doesn't know how to drive stick in a f40 and i can beat him in my ls460l any day. driver skills is definitely one aspect, but i think when we talk about which car is faster, etc... stick with the car

i agree with flip, after 60mph or so, the v8 starts to shine.

ok now im really lost bc the GS350 does
GS350 does 1/4m in 14.1 at 99.66 mph
SC430 does 1/4mile 14.4 at 96.31 mph
so how can he SC430 pull away from the GS from 60-70 mph if the from 0 to almost 100 the GS has better numbs. so theoretically the SC430 should past the GS350 after we reach 100mph is that what yall are saying. so basically if i race him it needs to be to 100mph, or 1/4m

A 0-60 race is a lot different from a rolling start or freeway 60-90 acceleration. From a standstill, the GS350 should shine. To be honest, .3 seconds in the 1/4 and 3mph difference is very very little in the real world. It's all going to come down to driver's skill and consistency.

3mph is a marginal difference in the real world. From 0-100mph no matter where you punch it, the GS350 is faster. Even if the SC430 gets a jump, the GS350 will catch up. The SC430 feels faster due to torque, but we all know how butt dyno goes. The GS350, despite having less torque, has better torque multiplication than the SC430 to make up for the torque deficit.
