Default Windshield replacement OEM/Aftermarket?

My GS350 attracted a rock that cracked the windshield about a foot long. My ins co of course wants to install an aftermarket windshield for $525.00 vs an OEM windshield for $1453. I am telling them NO to an aftermarket glass. Has anyone had an aftermarket glass installed with no issues? Anyone successfully get their ins co to pay for an OEM windshield?

I have state farm and when I called their Glass people for my GX, I asked them to get me a shop who uses Lexus w/s and they did, same deductible as aftermarket, trick is to use their contracted shop who can order the lexus glass, and the w/s people did not even flinch, they seemed to do this all the time.

Just explain to them your car is less than a year old and is still brand new. OEM Lexus glass is the way to go especially with the windshield clip ticking issues us 3GS guys are experiencing.

That is exactly what I have done. The glass shop faxed over the estimate over to the ins co. I should find out their response tomorrow. Of course I have not had the ticking issue YET!

NO NO NO ! ! !

DO NOT go with the aftermarket windshield!!!

Friend of mine had his IS250's windshield replaced with the aftermarket.

Curvature of the aftermarket was not as perfect as OEM, inwhich creates wind noise.

My friend was so pissed with the quality of the aftermarket, he smashed the windshield and replaced with OEM instead!!!

The problem with non-OEM spec aftermarket glass, they are of poor clarity and not true to form. The cheaper glass is usually thinner. The fact that the windshield clips creak/click during driving, a cheap aftermarket non-OEM spec glass can only create more issues with noise.

There's a big difference between cheap aftermarket glass and OEM spec replacement glass.

I had an oem windshield replaced by safelite, it was recommended through here, and was cheaper than my deductible. It was fine by me, same as oem, and the guy specialized in replacing lexus windshields.

PPG is an OEM supplier for Toyota/Lexus. As long as you request OEM Spec glass, not cheap aftermarket glass, you should be fine.

Alrighty. anything in particular I should address when they do it? Maybe I should tuck some cushy stuff in the dash when it's off to stop the rattles lol.

Bottom line for me is I will hold out for the OEM glass. There can be enough issues with the change out. I have no interest in dealing with aftermarket glass that could leak, wind noise, or not fitting properly. The glass shop that I am going to use handles all of my local Lexus dealer glass work and he tells me he has had some problems with the aftermarket glass on installs, especially on the GS!

lexus cracked my windshield last week while trying to do the TSB for the windshield clip clicking noise. they replaced it with an OEM Lexus windshield. got it back yesterday...no problems, yet. clicking is gone, no wind noise. we will see when it rains how it does with leaks.
