The unit you are looking at on ebay is made by VaisTech (a forum sponsor) and all connections are done at the head unit. As such, you'll need to pull the head unit to connect. I have (a similar version of) this installed in my '04 GX as there wasn't/isn't an OEM option for it. It's works well..... but definitely not nearly as seamless as the OEM unit (to install or use). It also requires an extra XM tuner box (like the XMD1000 shown in the auction). Good alternative when/if for Lex/Toy cars where OEM is not available as an option.
There's another Lex dealer in TX (houston maybe?) that is known to put xm kits on the auction site. Might try them to see if they can get the OEM part Darrel said is not available. Also, did Darrel say if the '07 kit will work or not in your '06? What about the kit for the ES or IS - since they all use the same basic set ups?
My comments are all about XM and not about the GS.
I found the XM content to be as varied as I expected and the music to have the quality I expected -- good, but nothing to write home about.
My one major negative surprise was the compression of the news channels, which sound very tinny and much like earlier digital cell phones, very unnatural. CNN Headline News, for example, sounds great on DirectTV, no matter how poor the quality speakers I pipe it through, but it does not sound natural in the car. On the other, there is a local AM station here that frequently retransmits CNN Headline News and it sounds more natural on the AM station, even if there is a bit of static.
Again, this is an XM radio issue not a GS issue.
If I had it to do again, I would definitely still have the XM installed. It's worth it.
