Ecstatic. Perfect. Couldn't be happier. Highly recommended. Would buy again.

Pleased. A few things here and there really bother me, but overall pretty good.

Meh. So, so. As bad as it is, it was the best of the lot in this price range.

Disappointed. I can live with it, but I'll be looking to trade or sell soon.

Furious. Worst decision I've ever made with $50k. Not recommended. For sale/already sold.

I got to give my two cents on this. for I feel for all you guys. I see that the 3rd gen carried over a lot of faults from the 2nd gen

I have a 2000 GS400.
Overall very happy, I have over 70K and no problems.
Great motor, quite and safe.

Yes the car is a boat.
Yes the steering is numb.
Even with new suspension and +2 rims.
The German cars do have the handling and the steering feel but at what price?
Ever get service for a BMW?

Here is a list of problems for 540i = a comparable model of my car:
http://www.540i6.com/probsfixes.html
If this is what it takes to have a "fun" car forget it.
I will never buy a bmw.

Its too bad - because of what some people write you will never get to experience a BMW.

Service is included and free for the first four years/50K - you can extend that an additional two years (along with the warranty) - so you can live with peace of mind for a total of 6 years if you want. Yes, the cars have a lot of features in them and a LOT of technology and I really don't recommend owning one out of warranty - however, while in warranty they sure are sweet.

Heck, what do I know, Consumer Reports even recommends the 7-series now!

Thanks I have experienced quite a few in my day.
M5, m3, 330i, x5, etc.
I also have tasted my fair share of other German cars.

They are fun to drive, not fun to own.

Big difference.

Free maintenance is not the same thing as living at the dealership. and making payments on a 5 series and driving a 3 series or a worse loner.

Here here brother!
I agree wholeheartedly. In the end, after my experience owning a Benz, it's the thought of living at the service dept that kept me from buying a Bimmer.

You guys are true experts! But hey, don't listen to me, listen to JD Power.... (yes, that's BMW right behind Toyota)

Fair enough,
Any studies comaring these cars say after 5 or 10 years of ownership?

Still see BMW in the top 10?

Didn't think so.

Really? That's the 3 year chart - maybe you can dig up a 10 year chart? I'm personally not aware of anyone doing a 5 or 10 year survey on brands.

last I checked... toyota and bmw weren't models competing against each other, but more along the lines of Lexus vs BMW vs Benz,... and Lexus is clearly a long shot from either of it's competitors including Infinite.

( though I might add that bmw is beatin' MBenz... still no comparison )

Also, every bimmer owner I know lives at the dealership as stated, and generally have gotten rid of them and gone to benz or something japanese.

My line of work is in the repair industry. I cringe every time I visit a BMW dealership and seeing several, less than 5 year old vehicles with their trans or motor pulled out already.

06 GS 30K miles. All the expected rattles and squeaks and workarounds. It's ok not great. As would be a toyota Avalon I guess. It's definitely not as great a car as the smug dealership sales and service people portray. Oh for another Lexus dealer within range so I'd have a choice.

Is the topic about how happy people are with their Lexus GS or how many repairs BMW owners go through? (which I've shown time and time again is actually just slightly more than Toyota per the latest JD Power long term reliability survey).

This topic is certainly about how happy or unhappy people are with their GS. You're trying to talk about BMW and Toyota which really has nothing to do with the GS. Perhaps for comparison sake it's okay but you're continuously trying to promote BMW in every chance you get.

It's a fact there are people that love or hate BMW. We can leave that to another discussion thread.

PM me if you have questions.

O6 Pre-Owned with almost 35k. The Squeeks and Rattles really bother me, but I'm isolating and removing them 1 by 1. (two trips to dealer for the windshield and dash....MUCH BETTER... taken my speakers and A-Pillars apart myself and insulated them...MUCH BETTER... door panels- took apart last night andinsulated and they are mostly silent this morning. Sulfer Smell from the exhaust from time to time... embarrasing when you get out of the car in front of a nice restaurant...and your car smells like a rotten egg. (but I had an IS and ES and they both did it, so I realize it's a catalytic converter issue that I'm probably going to have to live with. At least I can't smell it IN the car) Wish XM was easier and less expensive to add..or came standard which a lot of manufacturers are doing now. I'm loving the gas milage (ave 26mpg). Loving the smooth transmission... and ML stereo. Wish they had put the upgraded NAV into the 06 GS...after all the 06 IS and ES had it. It seems with all of these small issues, and the lack of the new-nav...that Lexus somehow rushed the GS to production (although you'd never know it by the 2nd Gen model life of 7-8yrs)

But even with those little annoyances... I still LOVE walking out into the parking-lot after a long day of work and seeing it parked. It's beautiful. And I've gotten more compliments on it in 3months of ownership...than I had on my Acura RL in 2yrs.
