Default Do you all think 2nd GEN is outdated?

Greetings all 3rd Generation GS Owners. I am currently looking at purchasing my first car/first lexus. Do you all thing the 2nd gen GS looks Outdated and old or do you'all think it still looks hot? What rating would you give it on a 1-10 scale? I dont want to drive something people that drive newer cars think is ugly. Thank you.

ha, that is actually pretty funny, especially the last line.
How much money are you able to spend? that's the first thing...if you got the money why wouldn't you get the newer version...just get the gs350 or 430...don't even bother on a gen 3 gs300??? I sold my 2000 GS400 with 135K miles on it b/c of several reasons...jealousy of the new style and how hot the car was, everything could be built in...bluetooth, xmradio, new version of navigation, cooler looking dash, the latest technology in the car and I could afford to do so

The GEN 2 still looks good (7). You can get a really good deal on the 05's right now. If you go that route, you have to get the V8...the new V6 on the gs350 is way better than the old v6. The GEN 2 is a great car if you want to do a lot of mods to it as there is more available.
Bottomline, go ahead and splurge and get the GEN 3..you won't second guess yourself on that purchase, except maybe of course the money part..

Its looks aren't as dated, but the technology is definitely dated. A lot of stuff in the 2nd gen GS can be found in newer non-luxury family sedans.

I think i'm torn between both.. Just check the classifieds because recently there's been more 2nd Gen GS's for sale than any other car..I really love the looks of the 2nd gen but remember us guys that have 98/99 GS's i'm sure wish that they had a newer model sometimes.. I know i do.. but i don't think i can afford it unless i get a 06 GS300 which i don't really want because i'm used to the V8.. .. These cars are almost 10 years old and like Henry said the style is still there but the technology is 100x's better..

I don't like the previous gen GS. Very dated IMO.

Second Gen GS looks like a completely different car. There's no comparison. I didn't even like it when it first came out. Just my opinion.

I love the looks of the 2nd gen still (exterior). But I totally agree with GSteg, the technology's DEFINITELY outdated.

THanks for the input, I dont wanna own anything that looks outdated to other people, but unfortunatly this car is one of the few luxury cars wich fit my budget and that I like, others include the 2003 is300(like it so,so)2002 bmw 3 series. Please keep posting replies be it good or bad

what is your budget? Maybe I can give you some input if I knew how much you had to spend and what you were looking for in a car.

+1 The second gen is easily a future Lexus classic. However, today I do think it is kind of bland stock when sitting next to a stock 3gen. But once you mod the 2gen it takes on another life form. They look absolutely incredible modded!!!

Feature/content wise, it just cant compete as the 3gen took a major leap forward in that regard.

As a former 2nd gen owner I was always very fond of the
car... I always thought it was a classic, but many people
who know nothing about cars think it is nothing special.
It is definitely dated in most people's minds.

why are you so concern about what people think. get things because you like them, not because people on MTV have them. why don't you ask if you should get a new TC, new Monte Carlo or a 2gen gs because that is all you can afford. beggars can't be chosers my man buy what you can afford and don't worry about the rest. there will always be people that will look down on things we all have or don't have.

a 02 BMW looks more dated than a 2gs because BMW is continuously updating the 3 series

Get the one YOU like, regardless of what others think. But if you want my opinion, I would say the 3rd gen. easy.
While the 2nd gen. is not bad from certain angles, I am never a fan of it's styling overall. I think the 3rd gen. looks better inside & out, especially in person, when you have them side by side to compare, which I've seen a few times.(I am talking stock of course). The 2nd gen. can look very good with mods however.
