Default Had no choice, put a regular in

I knew I was running low on gas in the morning, but totally forgot on a way back home and ended up getting gasoline with only 5 miles left at some random gas station on NJ Turnpike. They ONLY had regular lowest grade gasoline left in there?!?!? I assume its OK since this is my first non-premium gas tank in 8300 miles I have so far, just an emergency situation in this case.

Don't know if this is a product of my imagination, but I really noticed a difference in acceleration right away. Is this expected? I assume it will go back to normal after the next premium fill?

nope, your car retains the lowest performance spot and it will stay at that spot forever.
Time to sell the car and get a new one.

Ok, actually it is expected you will have a lower performance peak and less mpg.

But unless you feel the "knocking" don't worrk about it.

Things will return the the way they used to be with your next fill up and all will be right in this world once again.

Damn, you got me all excited that I can trade into '08 GS460 now

Yeah, I figured and hope it will go back to normal. Didn't hear any knocking, but car really felt like IS250 AWD loaner I had awhile ago (in terms of acceleration).

Ya'll neglected to mention that now the warranty is void. That li'l computer under the hood knows it was fed 87 octane and will tell on ya at the next scheduled maintenance.

Ask the dealer for mercy. Something along the lines of getting down on your knees, confessing to your sin and asking for forgiveness. Yea...that will work. It worked for Marion Barry.

Yeah... I actually got it down to 0 miles left on the display when I rolled into the gas station one time... was stuck on a very long stretch of road in the middle of nowhere with no gas stations. At least the station had 93 octane... but cost me an arm and a leg... and a foot.

So even with 0 miles it didn't come to a dead stop? I was sweating bullets when I saw countdown of miles on display as I was comming close to Turnpike's rest stop where they had that gas station. I actually saved the receipt, just in case for the record

I've gone past the zero mark at least 4 times and been as far as 8 miles with it reading 0. No gauge can be absolute since they are normally floaters in the tank.

yes the gas gauge is very conservative. i used to go 20-25 below zero and still had at least 1-2 gallons left. the best way to look at how much gas you have left is to look at your trip meter since the last time you filled. you'll see that the light comes on with AT LEAST 50-60+ miles left...

Don't remember off top of my head, but what is a fuel capacity of our gas tank? Because, based on fillup with a few miles left, I think I got close to 16 gallons.

It's 18.8 gallon capacity.

I had the range down to 0 before and it only filled up about 15 gallons. I'd say another 50 miles to go!

It's more of a safety feature.

I've had mine go to "0" and I still counted on the odm, I drove 10 or so miles, and I don't know how much further I could have taken it.

I managed to hold in the sweat as I did not want my SO to find out... her tolerance for these things is fairly minimal. I think most cars these days have some extra gas on reserve when the needle or the display hits 0. That's what I was counting on anyways
