Question Cover&Bra Question

Is the Lexus cover woth the extra $ ? Also, does anybody use a regular bra just for trips to protect the front end? I'm not really hot on the clear bra.

Regular ugly black front end bra that going to leave marks on your bumper/hood and will retain the original color underneath while the rest of the exposed car paint will age? I'm not even sure they sell those anymore.

Cover might be a good investment, just not sure how fast you can put and take it off if you are planning to do that daily.

Wink Temporary Protection

They still make them. I know they are really old school and I don't really care for the look either. It would just be temporary protection. I wouldn't leave it on all the time. I would only put it on when we go out of town and hit the open rood which only happens about 6 times a year for 2-5days each trip.

I would have to recommend the clear bra over a conventional. I have had experience with both on my previous car due to the high mileage I was driving before. With a conventional bra, dirt does eventually get underneath the coverage surface as you drive, sometimes grinding away at the paint anyway. It's good protection against bugs and such but the conventional bra has weak spots and corners where wind lifts it, causing open areas for dirt/debris to get lodged in and trapped. The Lexus bra will require you to replace a fender liner fastener with a screw on tab/button. This button allows you to snap the front fascia down as an anchor. The front hood section slides on and is only held down by hooks which attach to the holes on the underside.

As for the Lexus OEM car cover, it is lightweight, fits very well to the body and has a nice integrated carrying bag which stays in the trunk (also acts like a cover lock to prevent the bag from being stolen as the trunk is closed). The material is a lightweight vinyl/fabric material which is very water resistant. It will bead water nicely during overnight parking. I highly recommend it over an aftermarket cover.

Sorry, I have an"old fashioned" Colgan Bra on the way. I drive 30 mi both ways on city hwy each day. I want the option of taking the bra off at my whim and don't want a clear coat stuck to my paint all the time.
Around town I will slip it off when weekends come.
Have used them on BMW and Porche alike with no problems. Its good protection, temporarily, from all the trash on the hwys around here.
fwiw.

So, if installed properly and used on a limited basis your experience is that scratches from the bra are a non issue?

Right. I sold a 2002 911, Guards Red with no scatches. I used a leather Bra regularly, and no complaints. Obviously you have to be careful and remove it regularly.

Default If you go with the clearbra...

If you go with the clearbra, make sure you get it done right with the right material.

Question Lexus Bra

Does Lexus make a front mask/bra for the 2007 GS? I found a couple online for the older GS's, but not the current model.

Just wondering, why would anyone choose leather bra over clear bra?

Clear bra is invisible and clean look v.s. leather bra is vehicle with asthma wearing mask!

In 1993 I bought a super white 2004 Toyota Super Twin Turbo, to protect it from chipping (if I slow down it might help reduce chance of chipping, yeah right! ), I had to put the leather bra on almost all the time.

After years of use and abuse, the leather bra did not really scratch the paint. But when I removed them, you can see the "TAN LINE" (discoloration) between covered and non-covered areas!

Clear bra is not invisible. Clear yes-Invisible no. I would only use the bra for trips out of town which is about 15 days out of the year. I don't have anybody local I would trust to install clear bra. Also, having seen a few pictures of clear bra removals that destroyed the car's paint was enough for me. No guarantee that that wouldn't happen if the clearbra discolored a few years down the road and had to be removed. Too much of a gamble for me.
