Default iPod integration Cost.

I stopped by my local Lexus dealer today to find out if they offer iPod integration kit. And they do. But here is the shocker. It cost $800 installed . Can that be true? has any one installed iPod module on there 2006 GS with NAV? Why so expensive? A local car audio store (not a chain) quoted me around $300. I wanted the dealer to install so I don't risk voiding the warrenty.

please help. Can any one recommend a brand for a Kit?

Best Regards

Thank you for the response. Did the search. No hits on "GS 350 iPod". With this unit you are recommending, can I control my ipod from the car's LCD screen? If yes, I am very interested.

If you were to do a search on the forum, you would find that most of us have the VAISTech iPod adaptor, either SLi or SL2i.

http://www.vaistech.com/home.html

The difference is SLi offers an AUX input as well for other source. SL2i only works with iPod, but it is physically smaller, newer in design and supposedly has a better sound, not to mention a lower price.

If you are in no hurry, I would suggest wait and frequently check the vendor's marketplace forum for group buy on the unit.

There are several installation instructions posted along with how to remove the navigation unit. Again, please search for forum for more details.

If I had to do it over again -Read the threads on the Navigation bypass for telephone and destination unlocking etc. - while you have the navigation screen off, whoever the installer is or if you are a do it yourself, do the Nav bypass at the same time
