Default Cruising Range - Always wrong

Is it just me or is the cruising range feature in the ODO display area useless?

GS 430 2006 - 6 months old-

Filled up today while on a 200 mile trip and the car, with a full tank, says 240 miles left.

If I have an 18 gallon tank, that would be about 13.3 miles per gallon when I am averaging above 20 on the highway.

Does the GS not recalculate this and update it or does it use a standard MPG?

Is there some way to adjust this?

Thanks,

N

The cruising range numbers are just computer generated estimates off of your fuel level. It's obviously not very accurate and is the same with most all Lexus models with the same Cruising Range info. I believe the cruising range is calculated up to the time the low fuel level light turns on. At that point you still have more or less 4 gallons in the tank.

Odd as mine seems to be dead on when that thing hits 0 my Empty light has been on for a few miles. My estimate after refueling seems to always be different base on how the last tank averaged.i have seen anywhere from 400 to 320 miles.

The cruising range on a different 04 Lexus I own is fairly accurate. It usually reads a little high when you first fill up (Something like 375 miles or so) then works its way down. The gas light comes on when it shows about 15 miles left on the cruise range. I've gone as far as 10 miles after it reached 0 when I couldn't fill up once. I don't it is mathematically accurate, but it is close enough and reaches 0 before you run out of gas so that is good

I also find the range estimate to be very inaccurate.

I figured out that on my 06 GS3 that whenever the low fuel indicator comes on, I have 4 gallons of gasoline left -- and I average about 25-26MPG so actually have 100 more miles to drive.

How I came to this conclusion was that I went to the gas station immediately after seeing the low fuel indicator and filled it up to the max. I pumped about 14 gallons before it stopped. Gas tank is 18.7 gallons, minus 14, equals approximately 4 gallons I have left.

Default 2013 GS350 cruising range.

I just purchased 2013 Lexus GS350 AWD about 3 weeks ago. On a full tank of Gas, the cruising range says 218 miles. I contacted the dealership and I was told the system will adjust itself. I filled up the gas tank again about couple for days ago and the cruising range says 233 miles. I have a friend with the same car but his is not AWD and he gets 333 miles when he filled up. Please let me know if you've experienced the same thing.

Mine says 227 after I fill up but I lose 30-40 miles a tank based on the numbers I get. How do you reset the range approximate?

When I bought my GS350 off the show room floor my cruising range was 417 and it was pretty much dead on it,I used to use Exxon,Shell or Mobil high octane, then I started using another brand and it’s dropped to 321 took it to the dealer for and oil change and he said that the system need pro be cleaned, so I’lm gonna let it be cleaned,I started using the other brand because my neighbor who have a Benz said the fuel was fine in their car, before I started using it I had no problem, and their gas was high octane too,but cheaper..Once it’s cleaned going back to the other brands only
