Default Removing the middle brake light

Anyone know how to do it? I tried pushing it to the left and the right, but it won't budge. Any ideas?

Maybe there are screws that screw into the black things. They could be located in the trunk directly under the 3rd brake light.

I heard it was as easy as just pushing it to the left, but I don't want to push too hard and then break it. Can anyone confirm??

The rear deck is in 2 halves. You have to remove the half closest to the backseat to get access to remove the light, but to remove that piece, you have to remove the backs of the backseats!

YEah, I know on the 2GS it was a pain to do. BTW, it is illegal not to have a 3rd brakelight

Most state traffic laws probably require just 2 brake lights be active. The 3rd high-mount brake light is a federal manufacturer's law.

What?! Are you serious? I thought it was just a matter of pushing the light to one side.

Is it? What about the older cars that don't come with a 3rd brake light? Anyways, all I want to do is remove it so that I could clean the rear window and then put it back on, but I still can't find a way to pop it off.

dont forget if you remove the 3rd brakelight you also will wind up removing the sensor that controls the electrochromatic glass on your insrument cluster.

I would suggest just cleaning around the brake light, it's not worth the trouble to remove it.

I'm stubborn... I must find a way to get it off. I know there's a simple way of taking it off. Supposedly, you just push on it and it comes off. I tried finding a button or some kind of mechanism to press but nada. Somebody has to know how to do this.

I personally wouldn't advise popping the light on & off to clean. Do it enough, or bend something the wrong way and you'll end up weakening / wearing down the way it attaches and have (at least for me) a very annoying rattle on your back deck lid. I know it also sounds like you're not planning on pulling it off permananetly, but if you did I suspect a 'bulb out' indicator would appear on your dash (it does on the 2GS).

Try something like this to get behind it
http://www.asontv.com/products/1084400766.html

All cars in the US prior to 1985 are grandfathered from the 3rd brake light law. I recall this odd fact because my family bought a 1984 Toyota Camry that came without the 3rd light but the year after ours did.
