Default Tire sensors

Well, ask yourself another question: "Are condoms really needed?

Comparing sensors to condoms or insurance isnt even close. The sensors are there mostly for the runflats. You cant tell if you have a flat with runflats because of the thick sidewall. Theres no display to look at like other cars to see each tires pressure. It only tells you low pressure when it hits a certain PSI. Im guessing the reason your asking is beacuse of aftermarket wheels. Id sacrifise the sensors for wheels. THe sensors wont help me. Im sure the dealer will come ouut with a flash to remove the warning indicator. Cant you just transfer the sensors to the new wheels? Just be very careful. There on the valve stem

Yes you can, even with aftermarket wheels with valve stems that won't accomodate the sensors. e.g. HRE provide for free metal straps with instructions to band the sensors around the circumference of the wheels to make them work.

i thought the aftermarket wheels have to be specially designed for tire sensors?

anyway, imho it's a very nice additional touch. not everyone checks their tire pressure as often as we do, and i have seen so many times people running on flat on the freeway and such. not cool

Dammit.... I just cancelled my 19" Axis wheel order after having this conversation with my Lexus service manager. Additionally, he said that wheel/tire sizes that fit the 05 GS might not necessarily fit an 06 with its redesigned suspension. (I was going with 19x9.5 +45 rear 275/30/19 and 19x8.5 +45 fronts 245/35/19)

The place I was ordering from doesn't allow for returns of wheels with mounted tires. As much as I love being a guinea pig, I'd hate to be stuck with $3k worth of rubber and steel that won't fit on my car or won't accomodate the sensors...

I was reading some place recently that the Government wants to make the tire pressure sensors required on all cars after model year 200X. Similar to what was done with seatbelts a while back. That is most likely why car companies are putting them on now just to stay ahead. I am happy to have them as they dont cause me any trouble and dont effect anything on that car's appearance or handling. As they say Sfety First.

umm, dunno, that could be true, but i think what you have that's pretty conservative. i would think it's no problem but i wouldn't take chances too
