Hi guys, I am a new user to Club Lexus, so I apologise if the info I am after is readily available. If so please just point me to it.
My 2005 GS430 is a wonderful car, and I love it. In the trunk, where the spare wheel would normally go, is a second battery and a bunch of electrical / electronic equipment. It all looks original OEM fit, but I can't find anything on it in my User Manual, or Repair Manual.
The car works fine, but I would like to know what the equipment is, and if it's an option, or limited to a model range.It's frustrating not to be able to find it in the wiring diagrams.
Can anyone shed any light on this? Much appreciated.
Thanks for your comment Firelizard, but it certainly looks Factory. If it's aftermarket it is very well done. here's what a Lexus mechanic has to say;
"The battery in the boot is for the adaptive sway bar suspension from my knowledge. The front & rear sway bar have motors on them & this battery is used to power them & other accessories."
Odd then, that I can't find it in the Manuals. I'll keep looking. Can anyone recommend a better Workshop Manual? (Mine is from e-Manuals on-line, or something like that).
I noticed that you referred to a “boot”? I believe that would be the British name for the rear storage compartment? Most commentators are located on the opposite side of the pond. While your vehicle is probably a 3GS, it could also be features that varied depending on the zone the car was originally sold in.
Could you post a picture of the electric equipment your inquiring about and just to confirm the generation GS we are talking about, about a good photo of your new car? It’ll help get you the info your looking for.
Thanks guys - appreciate your comments. The car is from Japan, and was imported; I am in New Zealand. I think you're onto it lexo98, it' may be a 2006 model produced in 2005. The data plate doesn't help, so I may have to dig deeper on the VIN.
Thanks for your suggestion dwoods801, I have attached a photo of the trunk (you're right, we call it a boot), and a rear aspect of the car, which is the only photo available at this stage. I'll take more when the weather improves (still winter here).
A 2006 Repair Manual may give me the data I'm looking for. I wish Haines had a manual covering it.
Did the 2006 have both dynamic sway bars & dynamic shocks? Pretty techy for a street car - they must have been a pretty sporty package.

Certainly looks like the 3rd generation to me. I always liked the clean lines of the newer version. But unfortunately that's the extent of my knowledge about them. You might get the answers your looking for here. But it would probably be a good idea to post your questions in the 3GS forum. I was not aware of any repair manuals available for the 2GS. And have been looking at getting the dealership option that are on eBay, but a complete set is a few hundred dollars. So I have been signing up for access to the digital version when I have a problem. Good luck
