There are a lot of things to consider. You need to know your power goals and intended use. If you just want a manual trans to cruise around in, a w58 is a good cheap option, but wont hold much power. The r154 can hold more supposedly if you are thinking about power adders, but they seem to get blown often at even 300whp power levels talking to the guys on Supraforums. The Cd009 is a popular 6 speed choice, relatively strong, but an expensive route due to the adapters and cost of everything. Arguably the best transmissions are the T56 magnum or newer TR6060 if you are going for big power or racing, this very expensive but may be necessary if you have big power goals. There is also the V160 from the Supra TT, but they are outrageously priced and hard to find discontinued parts for.

Anyways, whats "best" can be very different depending on your needs.

Here's a discussion on the strength of these two: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/per...8-vs-r154.html
Some info on why a T56 is good: https://www.grannasracing.com/blogs/...v160-and-cd009
