Default Explosion body kit

Hi All,

I am new to this forum and just purchased a 98 GS400. I have been looking to do some mods and I want to start with a body kit. After spending some time reading through past threads, I really like the look of the explosion, but I have seen prices from $400-800 for the total kit, less paint. Does that sound reasonalble or is it a fake (It is fiberglass)? The reason I wonder is because the L sportline kit for example costs about $2k. Are there any drawbacks to getting a fake? If it is bad to get a fiberglass kit, can anyone recommend where I can get a real Explosion kit and how much it should cost.

Thanks in advance,

yes the kit you have been seeing is a knock off the real Explosion kit. The real one comes from Japan and is pretty pricey, not sure of exact price. You should contact Steve Ganz, his CL screename is SupraTRD.He can get alot of JDM parts and could probably locate that kit for you, as well as a few others. As far as fiberglass goes alot of people think that fiberglass wont stand up as much as urethane, but if you get a GOOD quality fiberglass kit you dont have much to worry about, if you are easy with it that is.Given it wont flex like urethane but a good fiberglass kit can handle the everyday road use.

it's totally fake. you can get fake explosion kit for around 500 bucks. lsportline you can get it for about 1500. if you get the real explosion kit, i don't expect it to be anything less than 2k

I think the real explosion kit is well over 3k. You guys can ask GSintensive about his real explosion bumper.

It costed me 2.8k 2 years ago, I had to get the whole kit because they would just sell the bumper, my side/rear are still sitting at Jason's shop :P

never know Lsportline can last this long

Are you saving the side skirts for future use? Since I don't think I can get the L-Tuned skirts any longer, I will be looking into other options. Someone have a pic of these skirts?

I just dumped my explosion kit for $200. Yes it was fake and it sucked... Fiber glass cracked when the wind blew on it. I bought it before I joined these guys and found out about my car. GTP international
makes a blue rated knock off and it fit better then the one I got from pro car parts. They prefit the kits
on cars before they sell them. I have a poly kit now and I'll never go back to fiber glass. I hit a curb at the bank and it just left a scatch fiberglass would have been shop bound. Good luck

Thanks for all the info. If I did get the fake, sounds like the real one is expensive, are there any differences between the real and fake, other than the material? ie visual, fit, etc. Why are fiberglass ones so brittle, isn't the corvette body made of fiberglass?

i think the corvette cares more about quality than some knock off company that makes 2nd hand kits. but the style is the same depending on which one u got. the only difference i think is fitment and quality. might crack or break easy like AROD said..
