Default Bolt threading - help

Was in a hurry replacing ball joints and buggered up the putter tie rod bolt (that attaches to the ball joint) just enough where I can’t get the nit to thread back on.

If the damaged threads were Int the middle of the bolt that’d be easy. But how to fix damaged threads at the tip of a bolt?

I just put on new outer tie rods and I’d hate to have to replace it again if not needed.

thanks in advance.

If it's too buggered to start a die on it, you might be able to reshape the threads with a file enough that you can them run a die down the bolt and straighten them out.

You need a thread repair file. This shows a set to give you an idea what you're looking for:

Either that, or a split-die, that you can attach at the bottom, then force off, to re-thread the tip.

Also, make sure you are working with a perfect nut, for that thread... sometimes a new nut will re-thread the bolt-side, then re-tap the old nut, and use the old nut.
