'01 430 Steering Movement Up/Down Play
Hello All,
I have an issue with my steering assembly where I can place my hands at 3 and 9 o'clock on the wheel and move the wheel assembly up about an eighth of an inch. When pressure is removed, the assembly returns back. When I state wheel assembly I am referring to the steering wheel and column assembly as one will move. The steering is tight and responsive as expected but this up/down play can be annoying with with any underhanded turns gripping up and over with the steering wheel. This does not appear to be an issue with the motorized assembly, as that works fine...up/down - in/out. This is something that can be moved without a key in the ignition.
Most of my searches on steering issues result in posts related to the motorized adjustment or bushings, but none of the problem descriptions match what I am experiencing. Is this something that sounds familiar to anyone else?
I appreciate the help! Thank you!
PS...I can post a quick video if that will help.

Check the 2 14mm bolts under the dash that anchors the steering column to the frame of the dash. Remove the under cover and you will see the bolts, check the torque specs. Other that that it could be the nut in the center of the wheel that holds it to the column itself. remove the airbag and check that as well.

Thanks for the feedback. I have a new replacement steering wheel coming in this week, and if that's the case I will take some pics and document for everyone else.
Thank you again!
