Fond memories of my GS430
2001 GS430. Purchased May 2004 w 30k miles for $30k in Ohio. Drove for thirteen years, sold it in 2017 w 170k miles. It never let me down, and it was a pleasure to drive. I owned it through a huge period of change in my life. When I bought it, I was a single young man without a job. (I had some money from another job, but in truth at the time I was just a lazy young man.) When I sold it, I was a responsible man with a family and a career.
This sub is so active and your 'What did you do to your GS today?' thread has lovely pictures of cars you guys are really taking care of. Nice to see.
Here it is not long after I bought it looking about as good as it ever did.

That was a nice looking GS you had. Its hard to think I was in elementary school playing with Hot Wheels and r/c cars when these cars first came out new but I knew since around 2010 when I started researching more into Lexus that these cars would stand the test of time like my Supra has and they definitively will for years to come with proper maintenance of course

I was giving the vehicles in my care their wash and the 2nd oldest in the fleet in 98'GS400 [purchased in March '98] still looks new and was wondering, would I be able to part with it. I dont think so.

I'm the original owner of my '99 GS400. I have a spreadsheet with all of the service history going back 19 years. The reliability and build quality of this vehicle is amazing. This pic is a couple years old but she looks the same.

The man I sold it to came back a day later to return my ezpass transponder, which I had forgotten.
I had some rather strong emotions watching it drive away that last time.

I knew right away that Lexus had finally made a car for me, though I had no idea how I could afford one.
Six years later courtesy the dot com bubble, I had one.

I’m absolutely in love with my gold ‘98 GS400. She’s my very first I-bought-it-myself car. Got her for just over $2000 and at 189k miles two years ago. She’s a salvage title and was kind of neglected by the clueless buffoons who owned her for a few titles previously. A few wear items were fixed, and a few preventative measures were taken, and now she runs flawlessly (minus worn suspension) at 206k miles.
She’s taken me through all my pivotal adventures in my journey to be an established adult. Not a single breakdown or new issues (except ones I caused myself while messing around).
Sometimes I wish I had something that was better in snow but the thought of getting rid of her makes me feel ashamed. She’s a car of principle and I’ll take good care of her till death do us part.
Cue Queen’s “I’m In Love With My Car.”

I gotta say, my fathers Lexus has been quite reliable for its entire life of 270,000km/168,000miles:
He was the original owner, and I still remember the day when we picked it up from the show room. We washed it religiously once a week because we worked at Lexus as lot jockies doing the complimentary car wash on Saturdays. Many cross country hauls with the family, and it took lots of abuse when we turned into teens. The biggest problem was the transmission let go around 250,000, but I'm sure we had something to do about it :/
My dad plans to never sell it and if he does, I'll put it in my name.
