Default Car trying to start itself without key

Hello everyone,

I was getting ready to go to work and I was hearing someone was trying to crank up their car, and I was like this dude is going to burn his starter looool.

I reached my car and , My car was trying to start up , I even looked twice to make sure no one was trying to start it up

What do you think is wrong with the car beside the ghosts

Thanks in advance everyone

Does your car have an aftermarket remote start (or as part of an aftermarket alarm)?

I have read online about the causes of this behavior:

1- Starter Connection "Wires not in good condition"
2- Starter Solenoid not good
3- Water getting into the fuse box

It have been raining for couple days and that is why I think the car was acting

what makes it weird too, is that the car was not moved for couple days

I have heard of this very rare issue before where excessive carbon dust build will make a new electrical path for the contacts inside the starter causing it to start on its own. Good thing you caught it right away. Personally I would unplug the small 12v+ wire going to your starter solenoid on your starter and see if it is getting voltage when it is not suppose to.

How old is your starter?

It’s happen to a few of us on here before. Usually when trying to crank it just keeps going though. I replaced my starter but I think you just can rebuild it on your own. We posted something about this a while back but I have to search for it
